If Grady had integrity he would restructure his contract since he already stole a bunch of money from the Tribe to begin with.
(no I wouldn't restructure myself. I know there will be that guy who brings it up.)

Or he'll have another year along the lines of...well, let's just have the final Yahoo power rankings explain it:wes_mantooth;916476 wrote:I was also thinking this....
more than likely, Grady is gone. So you know damn well that whoever he signs with...he will have a career year. Probably bat .300, hit 25 hrs and win a gold glove again....it is the cleveland curse.
15. Cleveland Indians (80-82; Previous: 16) – News comes that Sizemore is to have knee examined. Or, as it’s known in Cleveland, Monday.

I would LOVE if we could get Cuddyer. I think he would fit perfectly here. Willingham would be a decent pick-up also.

Next year the tribe will have Prince on first and Reyes on 3rd. Book it.

Things like that don't really happen to Cleveland, do they? Moon Pie....Moon Pie.wes_mantooth;916476 wrote:I was also thinking this....

Reyes wouldn't sign with Cleveland to play 3rd. Our best bet of getting Reyes would be moving drubs to 2nd and Kipnis to 3rd

Reyes would have to beat Broussard out in Spring Training.
One "lightning in a bottle" target I could see is Jorge Cantu. He had good seasons in 05, 08, and 09 and after this year he would definitely come cheap. Plus he can play 1st or 3rd.

Come cheap?....like really cheap. Maybe an invitation/non guaranteed contract cheap.....Just the kind of move I'd expect from the Tribe.`In reality, lots of teams take flyers on players....wouldn't hurt to take one on Cantu. Cantu is a defensive liability though....He makes our current 1B's look like gold glovers. I do expect the Tribe to bring in somebody to push LaPorta, if not replace him.
Just what the team can and cannot do is going to hinge on whether the options on Carmona and Sizemore are picked up. We'll know pretty quickly...the decisions have to be made within three days after the end of the World Series.

Who better to bring into a team to make sure they can handle expectations, manage the pressure, and not melt down at crucial times?

Carmona cant just turn it around. His delivery wont let him. He is SOOOO open it causes 2 HUGE issues.
1. His wildness. He has his plant foot nearly pointing towards 1st base. Impossible to be consistent and will always lead to huge bouts of wildness
2. He is so open, that batters pick up the ball REALLY early and just smack him around. In 2007 it was new and different, but now hitters see him.
I am 99% sure he will NEVER be a good pitcher unless he closes that delivery up a LOT. It is ridiculous how open he is on it.

He will pull himself out of every 3rd game to save his batting average. I wouldn't want that D-bag on my team(and the Indians are not my team).Crimson streak;917635 wrote:Reyes wouldn't sign with Cleveland to play 3rd.

Wow, Laley...that's quite an inside analysis followed by a bold statement. Don't get me wrong...I am not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I'd be curious how you came up with that?...( did you hear it somewhere in the media, have a friend who's a pitching coach, or do you have special knowledge yourself?) Not that I require expert testimony, but, if true, then I wonder why has not the organization picked up on that or corrected that flaw...especially since Fausto has had a few different pitching coaches over his tenure here. I am not trying to call you on this...just want to discuss that further. Over the years, I myself have posted on why the Indians (who had a great hitting coach in Derek Shelton) consistently had trouble in certain aspects of the their hitting game. Why can't the Tribe figure out Carmona if his problems are mechanical? I always surmised that his 'problems' were in the space between his ears.Laley23;917935 wrote:Carmona cant just turn it around. I can't wait for them to use the "but we raised the payroll!" excuse when it was by default. It's OK, if they are the least bit out of contention there will be a deadline fire sale to get it back to their 40 million range that they like.

Using Cot's Baseball Contracts, which I agree is a great site that I have used since my senior thesis, the Tribe's Payroll the last 5 years is:
2011 - 49million
2010 - 61million
2009 - 81million
2008 - 78million
2007 - 61million
That is an average of $66million per year. If you throw out this year's salary you have an average of $70 million. If the author of that article that mantooth is correct and the Tribe has approximately $51 million on the books for next year, it could be conceivable that the Indians could go out and sign 2 guys in the $7-$10 million range. They also can do this knowing that after the 2012 season Hafner's salary will be gone so if the team falls flat, they really are only making a 1 year investment. That would however, be a pretty significant jump in salary from one year to the next. The last time our salary jumped UP by that large of a margin was after the 2007, when the Tribe was 1 out away from the World Series.

Sizemore underwent a "successful" arthroscopic knee surgery yesterday. I can't imagine that Antonetti will pick up the $9 million option. I wouldn't be opposed to trying to rework his deal to bring him back, but if Grady doesn't want to do that, why would our cheap ass owner want to pay $9 million to a guy that hasn't performed if he has the option not to?bases_loaded;922562 wrote:Agree, just telling you what will happen
