LOL at any big ten game being a big game. From a college football fan first and a Ohio State fan second, the big ten is a horrible conference and everybody has an inferiority complex towards Ohio State. OSU has literally tried to give someone else the outright championship the past few years and the rest of the big ten has collectively peed down their legs. OSU needs to win a big time out of conference game because no one outside of these college football boards cares about winning against big ten teams. Your crazy if you think this is a "gimmie" game for OSU. In case you haven't noticed, our offense is nothing to write home about. Our QB isn't very good at throwing the ball.
If Oregon happens to "go off" on offense, we are in trouble. They have the game breakers on offense to create some problems for OSU defense.
That being said, I am semi confident going on. Although..with our recent luck in bowl games, and big games...there is a part of me that is very worried about this game.

That "great" osu defense plays in the "no offense" big10 and has yet to prove themselves against a top 25 offense thats why people are a little worried. I think O$U can beat Oregon, but if you think that the bucks D is going to shut them down then you are mistaken. O$U will slow them down imo but the bucks O will have to score at least 28 in this game

I think they would beat the 2007 and 2008 teams. That team played in a title game by default, take away Beanie from both of those offenses and they're no better than the current offense. This year's defense is BETTER despite not having JL and Jenkins. The front four is the best since 2002, the linebacker depth is the best maybe of Tressel's tenure, Coleman is the best safety since Doss (yes I think he's better than Whitner).

Offensively this team has found its stride a bit. They still aren't really a threat passing but the running game is so deep that they give teams multiple looks. Posey IMO is better than both Robo and Hartline as far as big play ability is concerned.

Everyone said the same thing last year. That Texas was a product of weak defenses in the Big 12. OSU did have a chance to win the game...but still, Colt McCoy did go nuts on our defense.

Unless our running game churns out another 250 yard game on the ground, I don't feel confident about this game because of what the Oregon offense is capable of at any moment.

Like it or not, Ohio State plays in a better conference. When you play in a stronger league, you shut other teams from other conferences down. I know I'll get criticized for saying this but the Big 10 is the best defensive conference in college football. Maybe not the fastest, but the most disciplined and hardest hitting defensive league in the country. I watch Big 10 football all the time.

As far as OSU's offense, they'll be fine. We're much stronger up front and Pryor is the best athlete on the field when we have the ball.

I don't know why some of you so-called OSU fans try to sugar coat this program. Maybe some of you think it's classy or something to give the perception we aren't that good. When it's all said and done, over a dozen of OSU's people who play in this game will be at the next level a few years from now. Oregon won't even have half of that.

I have a ton of confidence in OSU also.

Our offensive line is no playing up to the level we have expected. They are healthy and its showing on the field. Oregon will not be able to slow the running game and OSU will control the time of possession.

OSU's defense is far better than last years led by one of the best defensive lines in the country.

OSU will out-physical Oregon and shut down their offense. As for the Oregon>USC>Ohio State argument, OSU controlled that game in Sept. but had no offensive identity to lean on. They should've won by 10+.

what does playing in the NFL have to do with whether or not Ohio State will end up winning. (Utah beat Alabama, Boise beat Oklahoma, WVU beat Oklahoma) Teams with less "pro talent" beat more talented teams all the time because of scheme, coaching, etc. Nobody is saying that Ohio State isn't "good" they aren't just picking them to win.

And I really don't know how you could argue that the Big 10 is better than the Pac-10. That's laughable. I love Ohio State and the Big 10, but c'mon

USC had one good drive, unfortunately that was at the end of the game to win it.

If you watch the game again its not unreasonable to say OSU controlled the game. That's why you cannot base anything on Jan 1st using the USC game as a judging factor. Anyone that believes OSU is the same team, mainly offensively, then their stupid.

I'd have to agree. Ohio State played very well for 3+ quarters. However, Tress didn't bring his A game. He did a lot of boneheaded stuff throughout the game and by the end it caught up with them. OSU snatched defeat from the jaws of victory

I would not look near as much into OSU's defense as in there offense. They only scored 21 points against Michigan and that is horrible. OSU is going to need to score more than 21 points to win this game IMO and I don't think they can do it. Also I am so tired of hearing about the great OSU defense every year. The big ten is bad IMO and they are way more talented than any other team in the conference so playing good defense against the same weak teams means nothing . I am not saying OSU has a bad defense as this years is very good but you can not judge a OSU defense until they play a top 5 team because they have top 5 talent .

I completely agree with you. I think the OSU defense will play well, but they also played well against USC and lost. The offense will have to score at least 24 points to win. If the defense can hold Oregon to 21 or less I think they did their job.

Ohio State won the Big 10. They got beat by USC. USC is playing in the Emerald Bowl.

boys, i cant stand the big ten so i was giving them the benefit of the doubt. my honest opinion is oregon wins this by double digits. this game comes down to a great offense(oregon) against a decent defense(ohio state). ohio states O isnt that good and oregons defense is slightly above avg. masoli will have 250 yrds passing and another 80 yards rushing with 3 to 4 tds. hopefully ohio state scores some points in garbage time because i need to cover the over. lol

I have a lot of confidence as well. I think our running game will be very successful against Oregon. OSU has much bigger linemen. As long as we stay away from trying to pass alot (which is what hurt us against Florida and LSU), we will be ok. Running the ball will keep their offense off the field and also is our strong point on offense.

Defensively, I believe our D-line will destroy their o-line. Oregon has a very good run game, but I think our D-line can disrupt that and shut Oregon down.

The size OSU has over Oregon could be a decisive advantage, if used correctly.

I think against LSU and Florida, Tressel went into panic mode too fast and stopped running the ball to go to the pass (the run is what we were having success with). We need to have the same strategy as the Miami game in 2003. Run, run, run, run and keep running. Mix it up with Pryor, Saine and Boom.

First of all, there was a reason OSU only scored 21..once they got the lead, Tressel played his usual conservative game play and leaving the game up to the defense. So its not so surprising OSU only scored 21. If they needed to score more, I have no question they would have.
As for tired of hearing about the OSU defense...deal with it, because they are good. They have two first round NFL picks on the Dline, and probably another handful of NFL players. You don't play 12 games, do what they did, and not be good my friend...no matter how bad you think the Big Ten is.
As for this game, as I stated...its going to be a very good game that could go either way. I think the difference "should" be the OSU defense. I think they will be able to contain Oregon and I don't thinkt he Oregon defense is that good..if OSU can continue to run the ball as well as they have in the last handful of games, I think they can win it. But the game isnt' played on paper...

I'm not sure who has the edge in this game. I think it will be a helluva game.
