It was a pretty good game. It looked like Big Red used the first half to work on/try some things. I think they still need to work on some things and I hope these next two games gives them that opprotunity to do that!

That is the sign of great coaching... The offense didn't sound like it could get much going in the first half (bad field position didn't help).

Adjustments are made and 22 unanswered points are scored in the second half.

Good luck to the Griffs the rest of the way. I love that this game is back on the schedule. They should wrap up the Akron City League quite easily again this year and find themselves playing in Week 11.

On a side note, it's good to see that Morgantown has bounced back nicely by beating Annacostia, D.C. by a score of 41 - 0!

I agree with you 100%. The second half showed how adjustments wins games. Its a solid win that the team can grow on.

It was a much more exciting game than the Morgantown game. I was sweating in the second quarter. This is the type of game my father would have enjoyed.

I'm also glad we beat a team from Ohio. That will put to rest all the harassment we got about last year.

Trust me, you weren't the only one. 90-degrees or so, high humidity and no breeze. One of the worst game environments I've ever attended. Breathing made you sweat.

As for Big Red, I think wearing the all-blacks caused some of the early sluggishness. Just too hot. I know they have the new jerseys, but don't they at least have the other ones to swap out to red, etc. Red jerseys with white pants would've helped a bit in staying cooler.

As for the halftime, great adjustments by the Red staff. Went from futile rushing game to great. So many counters wide open from keeping Buchtel off-center with where the run was coming from. Great decision to go for the fake on the second PAT to force it to a two possession game. If they miss, it's still 13-6. Great decision. And JoJo with the late gas on the TD run to make it 22-6.

This was a good statement game by Big Red to overcome that bad TD to end the half.

Won't be in town for next week, but hopefully it's a tad cooler than tonight.

I thought the BR play calling was excellent in the 2nd half.

It sounds like Buchtel improved from week 1, but I think that they will be 6-4 or 5-5 this year. They play Solon next and then Akron SVSM week 9. The City Series is much more balanced this year. I don't think that Buchtel will run the table. IMHO, they will lose to either Firestone or Ellet.

Three starters were out for the Massillon game.
This game exposed a possible weakness: our passing attack. One for seven with three interceptions will not cut it with our schedule.
That offensive formation is called "Iron and Steel". I don't think it was meant to be shown this early in the season, but it was necessary.

I hadn't looked at their schedule... Opening up with Massillon, Big Red and Solon?! My goodness... talk about brutal. Unfortunately, the state doesn't award Harbin points for bravery.

Buchtel has a pretty nice team, but I don't see them beating the Comets. I hope I'm wrong.

Good luck, Griffs.

The cheese slipped off your cracker. Solon is top notch. Ellet has better speed at the skill positions than Buchtel. the Griffs do have better overall team speed, but Ellet has 2 guys in the backfield that run sub 4.4's. Ellet and Firestone will give Buchtel fits.

I don't see Buchtel beating Solon either. 6-4 is the best the Griffs will do IMHO. I'm going with 5-5. Losses = Massillon, Big Red, Solon, SVSM and either Ellet or Firestone.

Good job Big Red.

I'm going to say they lose to BOTH Ellet and Firestone. And, I hope he doesn't, but if young Mr. McGinnis goes down for any reason. Buchtel may be hardpressed to win ANY games, I honestly think they, as a whole, are that bad. That's why I didn't get too excited when my Tigers slapped em around like they did.

Akron sat out 4 starters against the Tigers .. They played against the Red,, 3 of them anyway so maybe they aint that bad ... they have good and bad days ..I think Akron will win atleast 6 maybe 7 regular season games and 2 playoff games
