Sign them to bigger deals (but not huge deals) that seem really big because they get a huge raise and dont have to wait 2 years. Much more likely to get these guys to sign than waiting till they only have to wait a season.

That is exactly how the Indians locked down guys in the 90s....I agree

John Hart was the master at that. He had the perfect storm with guys like Thome, Manny, Belle, Baerga, Alomar & Nagy. I doubt we see anything like that (locking up a bunch of young guys to long term deals) here again.

That's what the Pirates did with Tabata and are working on with Walker right now. A. McCutchen seems a bit too bright to fall for that trick, though, so he'll cost a bit more.

Agree that they need to lock up guys like Cabrera now as opposed to when they're closer to free agency. I just hope getting burned by Hafner's contract doesn't make them gun shy.

Also, fucking KC blew another lead in the 8th inning.

Didnt we just do this with Victor, Sabathia, Sizemore, Peralta, and Hafner. Just happens only 2 of them ever did anything for us after. But I think we locked all 5 of them up early on.

Hate it when the Tigers have already won and we gotta claw for a W just to keep pace. Sox lost, though.

*Sigh* Another game another pitcher not being able to shut down the opponent after we score.

Masterson better be opening day starter next year over Jimenez.

Masterson will almost certainly be the opening day starter next year, which I think is ok. Ubaldo just needs to focus on being consistent not worrying about having to carry the team. I believe that he can when he's on but he's gotta get comfortable here first.

Ubaldo won't even be with the Tribe next season, so no need to worry about this flash-in-the-pan on opening day

Man watching Ubaldo is like watching Fausto Carmona. You see the super potential and start to get slightly excited then he makes an awful pitch and you get down again.

Also, vball why wouldn't he be here next year? The FO didn't trade their two most promising pitching prospects to release a guy after a couple rough starts

SMH. All of us could have hit that pitch hard. Center cut hanger.

He needs to lock them down the rest of the way.

Exactly why I wasn't in favor of the trade. Guy is too inconsistent yet shows flashes of brilliance (ala Carmona). Nothing can be done about it now so I guess I'll give it a chance but I'm not optimistic about him.

See this is what I'm talking about. Ubaldo retires 7 in a row striking out 6 of them. Tribe needs some runs.

Good job by Sipp. Tough to pitch with bugs crawling on your face.

2 good innings from Sipp. Heading to the 8th. Gotta get one.

I am going all Darby on this thread right now.
