Won't be as huge as everyone is saying...more like 35 - 14 is my guess.

Yeah Linsley is suspended the first 2 or 3 games I believe. Our OL depth is absolutely putrid with him and Adams out. If we don't have any major injuries on the OL and we get those 2 back, I'll feel a lot better about the OL depth.

Just a preview of coming attractions the next couple years, I'm afraid. Several recruiting seasons of taking only one OL is coming home to roost.charliehustle14;877339 wrote:Yeah Linsley is suspended the first 2 or 3 games I believe. Yep, for sure. OL seems to be an after thought in recruiting.Writerbuckeye;877347 wrote:Just a preview of coming attractions the next couple years, I'm afraid. Several recruiting seasons of taking only one OL is coming home to roost.

Bauserman to start--not a surprise (but he looks like he's 40 in this picture!!!)

COLUMBUS -- Ohio State will start 25-year-old senior Joe Bauserman at quarterback in Saturday's season-opener against Akron, according to Buckeyes head coach Luke Fickell.
While meeting with the media in advance of his first game as Ohio State's new field boss, Fickell said Tuesday that experience was the essential deciding factor between Bauserman and freshman Braxton Miller as the two have competed for the starting job in fall camp. Fickell said that he expects both will see a considerable amount of action against the Zips.
"We know we’re going to need them both," Fickell said. "We’re trying to create competition. It happens everywhere, but it's just a little more visible at the quarterback position."
Fickell said Bauserman and Miller are on board with the shared duty approach.
"We sat down with both of those guys and made sure they understand we need them both," Fickell said. "I haven’t seen any negative effects. I feel good about them handling it."
Bauserman came to Ohio State after a stint as a pitcher in minor league baseball and served as the primary backup to starter Terrelle Pryor for the past two seasons, while Miller arrived last January as one of the most sought-after high school players in the country.

For once, I agree with you. I won't be surprised if we have a hard time moving the ball and we'll probably give up a touchdown or two late.Tiernan;877327 wrote:Won't be as huge as everyone is saying...more like 35 - 14 is my guess.

I don't see any way Akron scores multiple touchdowns unless they get one defensively.
I also don't see any reason Bauserman should be starting. If neither player has been able to separate himself as the starter, then why not build toward the future?

I don't think Fickell has the ability to sit back and "build for the future." Plus, the QB who starts vs. Akron means very little. I think he is doing the smart thing by letting Miller play into the position rather than the opposite. I'm fairly confident Miller will be the starter by the time OSU travels to Miami.Mulva;877683 wrote:I don't see any way Akron scores multiple touchdowns unless they get one defensively.

Bauserman is bad. Might as well put Braxton Miller in there, that way you don't have to completely scrap last years playbook.

^^ Sorry a lot of our set run plays for Pryor were pretty terrible, he just made up for it in raw athletic ability. Either way I'm sure there will be plenty runs for Miller out of last years playbook.

Luckily, Miller will be a much better runner than TP. TP didn't have the ability to make people miss.OneBuckeye;878562 wrote:^^ Sorry a lot of our set run plays for Pryor were pretty terrible, he just made up for it in raw athletic ability. TP's stiff arm says otherwise

Miller may prove to be more elusive, but to say he's a better runner might be a stretch---one can only hope...se-alum;878585 wrote:Luckily, Miller will be a much better runner than TP. TP didn't have the ability to make people miss.

This situation kind of screams Boeckman/Pryor from 2008. We all knew TP was better, and we kind of messed around and waited until Boeckman stunk it up.

I'm willing to give Bauserman the benefit of the doubt, but I'd have a quick hook ready in case he shows that he is the same guy we've seen for the past few years

If they only got when I'm reading on some of the reports about this (a mouse pad, tee shirt and some other small item), I'm not sure it even rises to the $100 threshold the NCAA requires. Just a stupid situation (they were at a charity and got goody bags along with everyone else).
Honestly, if I were Fickell, I'd cancel all charity appearances by the team indefinitely and focus only on football. Why take chances when such stupid rules exist...and no, I'm not excusing the players. But the whole thing is just lunacy and proves the NCAA is truly broken.

I thought ESPN said it was under $300. I don't know if NCAA's rules say <$100 like you said or what, but it seemed very minute.
