an email from another client in Pittsburgh...
...my office was shaking and pictures were moving around. At first I thought I was still drunk from the weekend but then I realized it was Tuesday and that can’t be. They evacuated our building.... they say it originated in Richmond but I find it hard to believe it wasn’t Prince Fielder losing a game of musical chairs at PNC Park this afternoon

Felt it from my apartment/home office in Brooklyn. It wasn't crazy or anything, the place shook, felt like a mack truck drove by with crazy bass blasting. Wife was in the can, errr, powdering her nose and she felt it worse (just kidding Websurfinbird, sortof) ...

Was on the 11th floor of my office building in Reston, VA, outside DC.
Thought someone was running down the hall of my cube, then noticed the sound was from below and above. Then, looked out the window at the Reston Town Center and noticed the winds were bowing in and out. That went on for a few more seconds, then stopped.

Everyone was more surprised than anything else. No one freaked out and we didn't evacuate the building. We all just went, was that an earthquake? Guess so.
Kind of cool if you ask me.

Felt it here in Fairfax, VA, about 90 miles from the epicenter i'm told.
Was in Home Depot and saw the roof twisting and got the hell out of there. Got outside and the cranes down the street were swaying back and forth for a little while.

anyone else feel anything?

The Earth moved here in Hilliard about 8pm. Three times, in fact. :)

Seriously - very distinct sense of swaying on the fourth floor of our office building in Westerville. The sensation was like that of sitting on a car with someone pushing sideways on the bumper. - it lasted about 20 seconds or so.

The place I work sets about 30 feet from a railroad track, so the building shakes about 3 times an hour everyday anyway.

This time, it wasn't as jarring as when a train passes by (much smoother and slower), yet it was plenty noticeable. I didn't think anything of it at first because the building shakes all of the time and I got up to go do something, but when I got back to my desk people were asking if I had felt it, and how it was different/there was no train. So, I pulled up the USGS site and lo and behold, there had been an earthquake 3 minutes before.

The funny Facebook status going around:
The Weather Channel says the earthquake was caused by an unknown fault line running under D.C. and through Virginia. It is now being called Obama's Fault. Some think it was the founding fathers rolling over in their graves! Obama will say it's really Bush's Fault. Breaking News: Seismologists have confirmed that it WAS an earthquake and NOT the 14.6 trillion dollar check bouncing on the East Coast!
