It's done. Brian Kelly will be the next coach at Notre Dame. Here's to hoping that he can wake up the echoes and do better than the previous coaches to make the jump from the Big East to a major college program!

Best of luck Coach Kelly! Let's win some goddamn football games next year!!!

ESPN is reporting that Kelly has the job and will tell his players tonight that he is leaving for ND.

Good move by Kelly.

Kind of sad though, I was kind of hoping to see what he could accomplish at Cincy if he stayed for the long haul... oh well. I'm sure they'll get somebody qualified to replace him. Butch Jones?

Of course, UC nor Notre Dame have confirmed the hire.

Something of interest, UC has kicked all media out of the banquet tonight.

That raised some red flags for me earlier.

If Kelly was coming back it would be a joyous occasion and thus no need to boot the media

Brian Kelly kicked the media out. I'm sure it's not going to be easy for him to say his farewells to these guys. They've had a tremendous season, and they accomplished their goal that few teams ever get to accomplish (going undefeated).

Nonetheless, I'm sure Coach Kelly accepted the position at Notre Dame with alacrity. My advice: win. :D

That would definitely be a hard thing to do. I imagine there are going to be a lot of ticked off Bearcats

Didnt ND just fire a guy with a great offense and NO defense? Cinci's defense this year made ND's defense look good!!

Looks like it is official. Per The Cincinnaty Enquirer Blog Kelly was escorted from the sports banquet by the police. Tony Pike was interviewed on Channel 12 and stated Kelly promised to tell the team before he made a decision and he didn't. The players are pissed.

Yeah, he replaced 10 guys from last years defense that was better than his offense. He is known as a defensive coach. Was at the lower level and was in the MAC.

He is a proven winner. Won championships at the D-2 level and at the MAC as well as 2 in a row in the Big East....

That said, he was my 3rd choice :D

I knew once Ianello was named Akron's coach today that we would hear some official news today or tomorrow.

I would call myself cautiously optimistic right now. While UC's defense scared me this year...I liked his philosophy of "we'll just score more points than you!" I really believe that had Weis had that same mentality...we would not be talking about this right now.

Like I said, I'm just hoping Kelly doesn't turn into another Big East bust ala John L. Smith, Mark Dantonio, and Rich Rod.

Wake up the echoes Coach Kelly!

So over under the percentage of ND fans that thinks they'll be in a BCS game next year?

80%?

I'm saying over.

See if I was Claussen or Tate, I'd think again about going pro..playing in Kelly's offense has to be tempting for them.

I hope he's successful as the next coach at ND. I'm not a ND homer, but I don't despise them either. I do however feel that a competetive ND team is good for college football as a whole. I feel it's a very good pick for ND, and if he can bring them back to a consistent level of top 5 performance with some shots at a NC thrown in, this guy will be hailed as the savior of ND football.

The Irish really weren't as bad as their record shows. A couple of breaks and they could easily have been 9-3. Anyways, congrats to coach Kelly and the Irish.

I have never understood why it is good for this team or that team to be good at college football or any other sport.

Being I am not a fan of Notre Dame I hope he falls flat on his face.

Just my opinion, that a competetive ND team, that's in the BCS mix, is good for college football. I do feel that there are many people out there that don't want ND to be successful because if that happens it means their school could lose out on a recruit or two.

There's no doubt that the job is not what it used to be, and that the program is tarnished. But so was OSU before J.T., so was UT before Mack Brown, USC before Carroll, 'Bama before Saban, Oklahoma before Stoops, and to a lesser degree UF before Meyer.
Sure, they all have a few "speedbumps" here and there, but overall, these are the schools that for the past 5 years are the face of college football. If BK can turn that program around, you can put his name up there with those guys.
