Ok first let me say this I appreciate all members of the armed forces for thier service and dedication. This is not a thread bashing them. Its just about this one guy.

Ok so me,my wife, buddy and his wife are at a bar Sat night and pretty decent crowd in this smaller bar and a group towards the back has this kid in a purple button up shirt walking around like a badass. The kid isnt very big in fact kind of looks out of shape and nerdy. Later of course some kind of a fight breaks out and some guy starts yelling across the bar for another kid to come outside to talk.

Well my buddy says lets go out and watch this shit, so we go outside and this kid in the purple shirt goes outside to play piece maker and the whole time he's dropping lines about him being in the Army. Stuff like, some body said sir and he was like " You dont have to call me sir only the 147 guys under my command have to call me that. And later he put his hand on a much larger and trashier looking fellow to separate the two and gets shoved like 12 feet back and when he stops stumbling and falling back he regains compsure he says "ok man lets start over I'm capt so and so United States Army".

So all night he was basically "name dropping" by saying things like this about being in the army. So my question is has anyone ever experienced this? And is this guy a doucher for name dropping all night?
Later we met another guy who was home from Afganistan for a few weeks and didnt name drop at all and was pretty cool.

Kinda like CCRunner saying, "I'm a teacher, I know my stuff!" When in fact, he's only a gym teacher, which doesn't really count.

Dude, people like him are everywhere and they are the worst. Next time, just tell him to shut the fuck up and do his job that he earns a paycheck for doing. No one gives a shit if you serve in the army except for your family and the small hick town you came from.

Drunk fights usually bring the lulz. The bar will still be there when the fight is over.

There are shitbags in every profession.

And the military is no exception.

Sounds like some nerdy Officer type who is just starting to get some responsibility of their own and is trying to throw their weight around.

Ugh, one time my douchey cousin was home on leave for the first time after joining the navy. I got stuck taking him out with me to meet up with friends at a bar and comes out of the house in full dress uniform to go to the bar.

Seriously, who the fuck wears their uniform to a bar when on leave. Of course he had one part of the crowd thanking himfor his service and buying him beer all night which he ate up. Then there was the younger crowd referring to him as Gilligan and cracking jokes behind his back.

For one thing it's the fucking Navy which is nowadays more of a glorified college frat from what I hear. The rest of the military basically scoffs at the Navy. There was probably some dude from the usmc or army there looking at him like a total poser. And I have to claim him as my family. Couldn't wait til 2am so I could drop his ass off.

Honestly, I see more Marines at the bars in their Class A uniforms than anyone else. Marines have this superiority complex even though they are glorified bullet catchers.

You answered your own question. It's easy to shrug off the people ripping on you, when you have a crew of asskissers buying your drinks.

You shoulda told him to A. Go change. or B. you aint fuckin takin him.

My brother was in the navy for 7 or so years, (never served on a ship though) and he said some would do that and it usually was just the douchebags. The actual tough guys wouldnt dare do so.

The rule of thumb that I have noticed about military types.....the more they bring it up, the more they talk about being in the service, the bigger douche bags they are. Those who do it for the honor, for the country, dont feel the need to go out and wear dress uni's in public.

Now...there are times that a soldier has no other option than to be in public with his uniform on, but to do that and go out.......no way..

He is MOSTLY right. Rest of the military scoffs at the Navy.....all except the SEALs. Hell, many SEALs scoff at the 'regular navy' and some of their motivation is not have to go and be stationed on a ship.

They may good naturdly poke fun at their Navy brethren on occasion, but SEALs are very proud of their affiliation to the US Navy and will protect that pride against any outsiders making derogueratory comments. Marines particularly enjoy sticking it to Sailors but they shut the Fk Up whenever SEALs are around. I just get wound up when I hear pussies like I Am Ahab who probably couldn't cut it in the Peace Corps, let alone the military, knocking any of our Armed Services.

I am in the Navy, and have been for 15 years. I will say just a few things.

1. I am proud of my uniform, and will wear it anywhere, anytime and not be embarrassed. If someone doesn't feel that way, they shouldn't wear the uniform at all.

2. Those early 20 something kids that joked behind his back will be the same once that look back when they are 45, and wish they had joined the military.

3. They rest of the military will poke fun at each other, but nobody scoffs at another service member willing to serve.

4. If you have a problem with any of this, I will personally show you how tough the Navy made me.

I personally say fuck you to the both of you, and I don't care what repercussions come from it. I would rather not be on this site, than to see you fuckers bash those that make it possible for you to post the ignorant shit that usually comes from your heads.
