Question for you and any of the other Duke fans. Since Duke wasn't able to land Barnes, will they look to Roscoe Smith now? I've read that they've been keeping in touch with him, but I also remember hearing that he may be favoring someone else. Was it Georgetown, maybe?

I think it may be UConn you're thinking of. And, yes, there was word that Duke contacted Smith today (yesterday; I never sleep) actually. But, that's as far as I know on Smith. Quite honestly, I may never watch any recruiting again.

Reports are saying that (as a lot of Duke fans expected, I think) Duke had Barnes in the bag. That's according to his mother. She said ol' coca cola was always "one step ahead" of everyone else in the process. That apparently means even when Duke had him in the bag. This is not a good sign for Coach K and his staff. It really isn't. I question whether the focus in Durham is truly centered on the Blue Devils basketball team, which I think is not the case. Or at least not enough of the case.

Harrison's mother's comments as well as the picture of him in a UNC jersey with Roy that apparently accompanied the announcement today make me believe that the Duke staff had known for awhile they were going to get rocked on this one. So, I'm assuming they've gone hard after other options -- and Smith might be one of them.

Duke still landed Kyrie Irving for next season, though, let us not forget. He may end up being an even better impact player than Harrison. Two different positions, sure, but, with a Jason Williams-type game, Irving could be the game changer we need at the guard slot. Jon's great, but he's no Jason.

Go ahead and have your fun, guys. If the tides were turned this decade, and we were owning you like you are us, I'd be posting pictures of supersized national title trophies all over the place, with a little 1993 cup or plaque of some sort way down at the bottom of the post, in 2 font.

It sucks living here when Carolina is good. The blue bloods are generally good people, but they can be as insufferable as state fans after victories. It doesn't help that every news outlet is chock full of Carolina alums because of their journalism school. There is only so much praise one can read before your stomach churns.

I think Barnes is obviously a huge loss for Duke, but Irving was VERY important. Duke has needed a PG like him for quite a while and now they have one.

Carolina fans, including myself, are very happy about the current state of the Carolina program. That said, it's not like Duke isn't going to be good. They're still very talented, and as much as it pains me to say, K is a great basketball coach. Things will be interesting in the coming years. One big win on the recruiting front doesn't automatically equal wins on the court.

Carolina moved to 3-0 with a win over Valpo today. I wasn't able to watch the game, but it appears that the Heels were VERY inconsistent. Carolina opened up a 24 point lead in the second half after struggling in the first 20 minutes, only to see that lead shrink down the stretch. I knew that consistency would be a problem early in the season with such an inexperienced team, but it's going to have to stop now. Things get real on Thursday when Carolina takes on Ohio State at MSG.

bottom line, the Heels sleepwalked on Sunday. Roy was spitting mad most of the second half and when Deon got a tech you could see the eruption coming.

Carolina comes into MSG on a vengeance. They need to figure out who is going to lead this team. It certainly isn't Will Graves.

After the loss to Syracuse, Carolina dropped to #12.

The Heels got back on track tonight with a win over Gardner-Webb, 93-72.

GW's Grayson Flittner went crazy from long range, shooting 9-16 from behind the arc. He finished with 32 points, keeping things closer than they probably should have been.

On the whole, it looks like Carolina didn't play too bad. GW only shot about 38% from the field, even with Flittner's explosion. Carolina did continue to turn the ball over, ending with 17 giveaways. They also were awful from the free throw line, going 18-33 for only about 55%.

Deon Thompson was outstanding, scoring 22 points on 9-11 shooting, while Zeller added 16 and Davis had 15.

Carolina is now 5-1. Next up is Nevada on Sunday in Chapel Hill before the Heels host Michigan State on Dec. 1st.

Duke's Nolan Smith today was named ACC Player of the Week. Since returning to the floor last Tuesday in the Blue Devils' 101-59 win over Charlotte, Smith has averaged 22 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds in two games. Nolan shot 6-of-10 from three-point range in those two games, making four in seven attempts in Duke's 104-67 thrashing of Radford on Saturday.

Currently, four Duke players are shooting above the 45% mark from beyond the arc: Smith (60%), Scheyer (47%; 11-of-23), Dawkins (46%; 12-of-26) and Singler (45%; 10-of-22). The Blue Devils are hitting an average of 10.8 three-point baskets per game.

Through four games, Duke is averaging 93.8 points a game (third highest mark in the country, just ahead of #9 Tennessee).

Very refreshing to see Andre Dawkins playing so well. For the first time in awhile, Duke's guard play was the biggest question heading into the season, with both the departure of Henderson and the lack of depth. But the Blue Devils are shaping into one of the top backcourts in the country, and a lot of that has to do with Nolan Smith's unbelievable transformation over the past couple of years.

December 1st is going to be a chance at redemption for the Heels. If they can beat Michigan St, then that Syracuse loss doesn't sting as bad...

However, after being lambasted twice last season by the Heels, I'm sure these Spartans will be looking for a little redemption of their own...

It could get worse before it gets better for Carolina.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carolina drops a couple more games before Christmas. The break will be a good time to see what kind of team they will have. Roy played Ginyard at point last night with Strickland at SG. Worked ok, but their defense was pretty suspect out front.

I doubt Roy will find a rotation any time soon.
