2) Cleo de 5 a 7 (for anyone who likes film as an art)

4) The Union: The Business Behind Getting High

i really don't have a fifth selection, it would probably be Religulous if I had to choose. Maybe, The God Who Wasn't There.

i love how this turned into a place for people to put down their favorite 50 movies, even though the OP asked for five. Even better is the fact that people are trying to argue that the Big Lebowski is overrated. dipshits.

edit: just saw someone posted Moon, which I also recommend.

It seems like The Shawshank Redemption is making the most lists here. A bit surprising, since most Stephen King novels turned movie aren't very good (with the exception of Shawshank and The Green Mile).

i'd imagine 5 would be the easiest arbitrary number to follow. but you can do whatever you want, i know how hard it is to pick five movies (hell i had such a hard time i put down 6 LOL!).

Why is this surprising? It is #1 on IMDB's top 250 movies of all time. Standy by me and The Shinning are not far behind Shawshank as well and are Stephen King novels to movies that you must watch. Both are 10x better than the green mile.

Actually, Holy Grail and The Meaning of Life are in my top 100. I definitely have more of a taste for comedy. This is Spinal Tap also just missed out on the list.

I agree with Shawshank, and it was on my list--it's a great movie. But when I think of King, I think of great books/bad movies in general. I may have to track those two down. When thinking of his flops, I was thinking about Pet Semetary, Dreamcatcher, Graveyard Shift, Sleepwalkers, Maximum Overdrive . . . just a lot of bad movies.

I like Carrie and Children of the Corn is not bad. I have seen Firestarter and don't remember much about it. Langoliers was bizarre. I wonder if they'll make “The girl who loved Tom Gordon”.

Not sure how I forgot about Misery which is a great movie.

I know there was another King movie with Bates in it, I think Dolores Claiborne was excellent.

I have seen plenty of movies before 2004 doesn't mean that they are any more "must watch then movies after 2004. There are many great movies from before 2004(which a lot have been mentioned).

I will go ahead and list a few movies that haven't seen being said yet:

I'll be another to add The Shawshank Redemption!

I can't figure out my next four though. Probably throw in No Country For Old Men, Green Street Hooligans, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (my favorite movie as a kid), American History X, Dumb and Dumber (my favorite comedy), and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

I am sure there are several that I could put in front of those movies, but I can't think of all of them. I like Airplane!, the Bourne movies, the first 3 Indiana Jones movies, anything by John Candy, the Back to the Future movies, Remember the Titans, and The Green Mile.
