Greg Schiano coached Rutger's AD in high school. What's more, Schiano was the one who got him the AD job. It will be very hard for him to fire his former coach and friend. Rutgers has pulled together some really good recruiting classes the past couple years and is currently working on another stellar class. I think even if (and when) Rutgers pulls another poor showing this season he will not lose his job.

I'm so sick of this argument. It doesn't matter how many TV's there are, if nobody is watching the game. Didn't they also expand their stadium? Now, it's almost 1/2 empty. People just don't care.

Doesn't the Big Ten network charge cable companies a fee for carrying the network? If they can lock down money for a major market, it is a win for them regardless how many people are watching. Once they're in the market, viewing obviously helps ad rates or whatever, but there's still the potential for a major financial gain just by being there.

Muschamp's job isn't in jeopardy at all, but being the guy who replaced a beloved coach who won two national championships puts you on a VERY short leash with fans. He needs to win early and often. Don't believe me? See Ron Zook.

What argument? It's not an argument, it's a fact-we are located in the NY TV market, #1 in the country. If you don't think that helps the program, I don't know what to tell you.

No one from New York cares about Rutgers... people don't get that. Just because they are in that area doesn't mean New Yorkers like them. The kids that I went to school in college that were from New York if they even CARED about college football generally cared about Michigan, Ohio State or Notre Dame.

But for the most part the majority of New Yorkers don't give 2 shits about college football and only paid attention to baseball (pro), basketball (college and pro) and pro-football.

I just sold $1400 worth of Army/Rutgers tickets to a group of 8 guys from NY. 2 weeks ago secured a $2500 donation from a guy from NY, as well 4 season tickets. So if you're gonna claim NYers don't care about Rutgers because your friends don't, then I'm gonna claim they do because guys I'm associated with care.

Having lived on the east coast just across the GWB from NYC and roomied with a native New Yorker, what he says in general is true. NY is a pro city by and large, always has been.

No I definitely agree that it generally is a pro sports city. Absolutely.

Its just dumb to say no one in NY cares...there's 350000 alumni in NY, obviously some care.

How long has Rutgers been in the #1 TV market? Has it EVER helped them? My point is that it doesn't matter that their in that market if nobody in that market cares about the program. Besides the one good year that had a few years ago, Rutgers has never been relevant.

Also, you're example is ridiculous. Schools like BGSU have people that buy season tickets, make donations, and buy luxury boxes at the stadium. That doesn't mean that the population CARES about the program. If anything people care about the SCHOOL.

LOL obviously my example went way over your head. I was simply responding to F4F's post that because he knew a couple NYers who didn't care about Rutgers so taht must mean everyone in NY doesn't care about Rutgers. My response is well I know people from NY who care about Rutgers, so everyone in NY must care!

Also, the #1 market thing helps in generating revenue for the football program. It's not like in the pre game, the coaches are like "we really gotta stabilize that TV market they have!!"

They are close to a $200+million deal for the Big East Network and a lot of that has to do with Rutgers and the NY TV market. It's the same reason why the Big Ten has looked/could look at bringing in Rutgers. Especially considering our new AD's background is in TV with ABC Sports and NBC College Sports Network. Trust me, it's definitely a good thing for the program.

2. The market doesn't help the program if people aren't tuned into it.

3. Don't sit here and pretend that the BEN has Rutgers and the NY market to thank for its creation. A lot of the Big East is centered around the North East when you look at the football AND basketball numbers. By your logic, BTN is due to NW and the Chicago network. Only 1/2 of that statement is true. The BEN would have happened regardless of Rutgers. Hell, St. Johns is IN NYC.

2-Fair enough.

3-You're exaggerating my posts. I'm not saying that Rutgers is the ONLY reason the BEN is going to happen. Nor am I saying it's the entire reason why the revenue will be so high. I'm simply saying because RU is in the NY market, it doesn't hurt. And its a very valuable asset for RU to have.

Well first of all, I'm not trying to claim RU is Penn State or Alabama with their attendance numbers. My only qualm was with the comment "no one cares about Rutgers" that's simply not true. We have to compete with 13 professional sports teams within 100 miles of Piscataway, so it's not like it's exactly the hottest ticket in town.

But as far as attendance goes, our newly expanded stadium holds 52,000. In 2010, we averaged 46,000...in a 4-8 season. That was 42nd in the country, ahead of teams like the U, Boston College, Utah and Arizona State. In 2009, they were 4th in the Big East in attendance.

I only use 2009 and 2010 because the stadium was expanded from ~40,000 to 52,000 in 2009. I'm sure the 06-09 attendance numbers were just as good.

Beilema Pelini would be top 2 at the moment. I would put Fitzgerald and Dantonio next just because we don't know much about Fickell or Hoke. Count me in as someone that thinks Ferentz is annually overrated.

I would say Bo Pelini, followed by Bielema. After that it's a toss up, and who knows how the 4 new coaches will do.
