In the two games since Tebow has been the starting quarterback, the Broncos have been passing from the shotgun 79.7 percent of the time — a whopping 23.4 percent increase from the first five games started by Kyle Orton.
Counting all plays, running and passing, the Broncos have averaged 16.7 more plays from the shotgun formation in Tebow's two starts compared with Orton's five starts.

I don't understand why they didn't gradually introduce Tebow. Start Orton and change it up with a "Tebow package" or whatever. I know the two-QB system rarely, if ever, works, but I think it would have been a better just throwing him out there.

Who cares. He still ran the same type of offense you were suggesting and it failed miserably and if my memory serves me right he could throw a little better than Tebow.

Because of external pressure. Tebow isn't ready to be forced to be a passer right now. He doesn't do a good enough job of recognizing NFL defenses to rely on passing. He really needed to sit out 2 (or more) years with it being made clear he wasn't playing if they wanted him to have a shot as being a decent passer imo.

That's because as Auto suggested Carter threw the ball way better than Tebow does and he also had better players around him.

But what you are suggesting the Broncos do would not work. Defenses would learn and shut it down just like they did with the wildcat. Do you see any teams still running this other than maybe once here and there? I know the Cowboys did it like twice last year with Choice.

Also when tailoring an offense around Tebow did fail the Broncos would be set so far back it would take years to rebuild that team.

It wouldn't be a Wildcat where it's pretty much going to be a run everytime. The whole point of the spread option offense is to keep the defense on their toes, not knowing if it will be a run or pass, in order to give mediocre passing QBs (like Tebow) a better chance of succeeding. The Titans ran a variance of this when Young took over as a starter because of Young's below par passing ability.

We've just never really seen it at the NFL level, and I guess there's a reason for this, because teams aren't willing to give QB's with a below average passing ability a chance. I don't foresee the Broncos doing this, I think Tebow will eventually be phased out. But the entire point of my discussion is that IF the Broncos wanted to give Tebow a chance to succeed, that is how it would have to happen, imo.

It did for Vince Young, but like in the Tebow situation, you had a coach who was really against using it, and in the end the coach won and VY is now a backup on a different team.

I need to preface this statement by saying I agree with you that the spread doesn't work in the NFL, but I think part of that MAY be because of unwillingness to try it out using a QB that could legitimately run it.

lhs and how did that workout for the Titans and VY? It didn't just like it wouldn't work in Denver with Tebow. Teams won't ever give the spread a chance because it's not going to work.

Jeff Fisher wouldn't give it a chance, in the similar way that it's pretty apparent Fox won't either. I would say the spread worked pretty well for the Titans when they actually ran it. But if you're not going to run something, it's not possible for it to work.

FWIW, I don't have a problem if the Broncos decide to scrap any attempt to make Tebow serviceable. It makes sense in that the NFL is driven by QBs who can actually pass the ball. But they need to just decide. They're only setting themselves back by being wishy washy about it.

Well will probably continue to disagree about the spread stuff... but this I agree with.
