I am tired of the finger pointing and the lack of action by all parties, Dems, Reps, Tea party.... The lack of common sense and lack of leadership is sickening.

It is not difficult to balance a budget and spend responsibly.

I am really seeing why buying a number of acres in the middle of Idaho looks appealing. Become self sufficient, raise animals, grow crops, stockpile guns and ammo. Maybe the wackos are not all wackos.

I'm totally disgusted with Washington and all Parties. No common sense, out touch with reality, no understanding of making solution simple and getting back to basics.

I think the only way for America to have responsible and accountable politicians is to have “term limits” for all branch of federal government. Career Politicians is a evil identity within the system.

I'm not sure I agree or disagree about term limits, but I bet we can all agree that we wouldn't be able to get one single politician to vote for term limits.

The federal financial situation has become a classic candidate for 'restructuring & turnaround'. The first step is to realize a major problem exists (often spurred by a crisis, i.e. credit downgrade and pending default). I think a majority of them may be coming to such stark realization. The next step is to bring in restructuring/turnaround professionals who can assess the budget, determine what is to be saved and what is to be axed (and BTW, no sacred cows are allowed), and then quickly implement the (radical) changes necessary to, first right the ship, and second, put the government on a path toward being able to begin paying down the debt.

Many, many companies go through such a formal process all the time (there is an entire 'turnaround' industry). The time do this at the federal level is now, and the cuts must be quick and they must be deep (better to go too deep the first time around than not deep enough -- you can always add back later if necessary, but if you don't cut enough up front there will be nothing left to save later).

The only good thing about the current situation is that there is enough overspending everywhere that could be cut to get the job done and bring the budget in line. I think real turnaround experts would agree that this could be a relatively easy job if they could be given free reign for a year.

On the other hand, if the government does not take these steps, then it will get the C- credit rating it currently deserves. No private entity that has as much debt and as much projected deficit spending relative to its annual budget and its total output as does the federal government, would be credit-rated anything higher than C-. That's a fact.

I recently read an article stating that we as a nation do NOT have a spending issue, it's just that recelntly, we've had a surge in spending because for far too long we have not tapped into the tax base enough. Now that we've started doing that, and once the revenues begin pouring in, it wil cover all this spending.

I'm as disappointed as most of you that the debt problem was merely kicked down the road, our credit rating will drop regardless of this "compromise", and Lucy got the best of Charlie Brown again. No doubt. But to infer that the Tea Party members went along with this debacle is not correct. PLEASE don't say that Boehner and McConnell are Tea Party patriots. Y'all know better. Hell, Mitch the Meathead McConnell's the one that contrived the 2/3'rds majority language that essentially transfers financial matters from the Congress to the POTUS. He's as RINO as they come.

That we have a spending problem is so obvious...like I said, nothing short of rather amazing how the debate has been hijacked to be about taxes. Taxes are well less than half of it, unless you want to talk about taxing EVERYONE which the Dems are probably against even more than the Repubs. God forbid we expect a few more people to actually pay a little something for all these social programs we give them.

The most effective way to deal with this mess may be pay-to-play...If you want to participate in the social insurance, pony-up. I guarantee if they allow people to opt out not only will these programs have very little money to spend, but there won't be hardly any participants to spend it on. Insurance is a perfect example - plenty of people could afford it, it's just they preferred to spend their money on cell phones, cables, maybe a new car lease...
