I dont think I really like that trade...you would have another fast LF with no pop...could be a leadoff batter but what do you do with Heisey and Alonso?

He's better than all of the LF and a better leadoff guy than Stubbs...he's cheap and IMO the best defensive LF in baseball.

I really don't care...just want Dusty gone.

he's the best defensive LF in baseball? I'm just saying what do you do with those guys if you get Gardner? Trade them for other pieces?

I still would just go with Alonso and Heisey and then deal Hernandez for some pitching assistance

Alonso is not here to contribute in LF. He is here to hit, and without a position it will be just mostly pinch hitting, and if he has to stay in the game it will be LF. Every so often they will "throw him a bone" and start him in LF, and maybe very rarely a start for him at 1B. Now if Joey got hurt, Yonder would be excellent to fill in.

Agreed. His future is as a 1B or DH. Not OF, however the dude can flat out hit. I put him out in LF until his defense forces me to remove him. I have a hard time believing he would cover less ground than Gomes. If he does, so what. I have a feeling his offense will compensate for that. Plus you can always remove him late in the game. On top of all of this, Stubbs covers a ton of ground.

So give Alonso the Heisey treatment and give him a start every so often and just be a pinch hitter off the bench? I dont really agree with that. If you have a hitter who is ready right now, you play him in the field...not to come off the bench and get spot starts. Heisey and Alonso could split starts in LF and Heisey can spell Stubbs once in a while in CF...

I agree. If they are going to yank Alonso around, I hope they trade him. That's a perfect way to harm his value. (Giving him limited playing time and expecting him to succeed).

He's doing pretty well at succeeding in his role now!

Which is exactly why I want him to receive more PT!! haha. I know he has been doing well coming off the bench, but that is incredibly difficult to do. I'm with zach24oz. I hate to see him get Heisey-ed. Would rather see him in Louisville playing everyday instead of in Cincy getting a handful of ABs per week.

How does playing in Louisville help the Reds win games now at this critical time in the season? The best way to help the Reds now is pinch hitting, and that is what he is doing.

In the short term yes, you are correct. I'm looking big picture.

I don't think that having Alonso do what he is doing now is harming his progression much at all. Facing ML pitching 5 ABs a week may actually be helping him more than facing AAA pitching 20 ABs a week.

I disagree that 5 ABs a week will help him more...I think maybe throw in a start or 2 a week and see how he handles that.

In Tiger we trust!

Ended up going to the game tonight, the Rolen jersey we got is surprisingly nice, and they had a small that isn't that big on my wife. Left in the 5th to go see Naked Karate Girls. You cincy people should know who they are.

Lol OMG no...I talked to a lot of Yankees fans yesterday who weren't sold on him and said he's very frustrating to watch because of his potential...reminded me of.how we reds fans feel about stubbs

But then again that's probably because he was 0 for 5 yesterday and made the final out of the game lol

Like the Websters better. Both make it up to NW Ohio from time to time and are always at PIB. Both good band, though.
