...if they were to find out your username and access Ohio Chatter? I would assume in most cases employers would not care, since what you do on your own time is your business. Just curious though--would it bother you if they read your posts, or wouldn't it matter either way?

I would guess some on here would be quite ticked when they looked at the time of so many posts.

Not what you post but IF you weren't an above average worker and he/she saw hundreds upon thousands of posts during their hours of work....there would be some issues.

Not sure if my boss would care about the content, but I'm sure they would care about the time that I access the site.

this. I can't function without taking breaks during the day - it's either this, or something unhealthy like smoking or something. I'd rather just troll on the internet once an hour than the alternative.

I don't have a problem with employees who post on forums, if it doesn't interfere with the job. The woman that works in the office is always on the computer for work and play, she always gets the job done and even entertains us with some of the stupid shit she finds on the internet. The rest of the employees work in the field and don't have a computer with them, except for their phones. Do what is asked of your job and I don't care what you do, if it is legal.

Always be grateful that you can. Not all of us work in an office type job where internet is available.

I get a 10 minute break and 20 minutes for lunch.

I disagree that what you do on your own time is your business (see drug testing). As for posting during work, i only do that during lunch

For a lot of us it is. Hell, we can drink beer in our office if we want.

I figure that they DO check it out. I usually use the company laptop to graze the OC when I'm away from home, and as such I'm sure they check out the sites I visit.

What if as a poster, you were one that constantly used profanity, slammed other posters and was just an message board asshole, AND---would continually talk about (by name) where you work. Do you think an employer could/should be able to say "hey, as an employee you're representing this company, institution, etc.--now cut that shit out", whether you're posting on company time or not?

and for the record, I'm self employed, so I give a ratsass what my employer thinks :p

In exchange for the right to use the company computer for personal reasons, we have sign a agreement once a year to just that effect. In truth they're far less concerned about the occasion salty comment that thay are with putting out comments related to the company or our business strategies.

You need to be much more concerned about the off-color stuff in terms of any job searches you might have to conduct.

I don't know. I'm self employed but do have a partner.

If I worried about what other people thought then I couldn't be myself. What's the point of running around acting in a way you think others would be accepting of if it's not really you?`
