Arroyo vs Westbrook Both pitchers have high era as result of many ho hum performances this season. Bronson tends to find ways to avoid more than 2 consecutive poor performances....but it's hard to have much trust in him. The Reds offense is awful...spare me runs scored for the season stats and the run differential. 4 hits last night.....and Janish had one of them so that doesn't even count. Too many games of too few hits. Sometimes you just get dominated by a very good pitcher.....but the Reds make pitchers very good all the time. Bronson may suck...but the Reds should be able to battle Westbrook and get him out of the game by the 7th inning or sooner. Last night Garcia just lost control of his change up....but never gave in knowing the Reds often can't string much together.

I'd start Heisey and Renteria

Gomes is bad against Westbrook and Janish looks helpless.

I really want to sit Stubbs, but unless they are going to put Bruce in CF.....the reward might now outweigh the risk.

My lineup:

1. Fred Lewis LF
2. Brandon Phillips 2B
3. Joey Votto 1B
4. Jay Bruce RF
5. Chris Heisey CF (I know)
6. Scott Rolen 3B
7. Edgar Renteria SS
8. Ramon Hernandez C

The OF is basically 2 LF and a RF.....but the offensive woes are ridiculous. It's not that crazy and it gets Janish and Stubbs out of the lineup....or Pop and Strike....the Out brothers.

4. Bruce RF
5. Rolen 3B
6. Stubbs CF
7. Hanigan C
8. Renteria SS

No shit. Unsure how I have 1000 as my last bet on the game of almost 10k got me to zero, but I had probably 30 bets or so on yesterdays games and that helped I guess.

I am tired of the ups and downs of this reds team. My steelers friends and I mention this almost yearly that it is much more stressful to watch games when your team is in it, or very close to, contending as each game is big. Ya take the losses harder when your team is in the race. WHen you are out of it...ya just watch the games for pleasure.
Sometimes we wonder what it is like for browns and bengals fans...knowing you have no chance and all.

anyways....i am done thinking this team can contend. Hopefully they still own the brewers in the 4 before the break or this will get real ugly, real fast.

These Reds games bother me very little. I have little trust in Dusty and Jacoby and the mentality of several members of the team. Too many aloof, childish, ready to snap guys IMO.

I guess I trust Dusty more than most fans. He has lead three diff teams to the postseason.

Too many streaky players on this ballclub. It is great when a majority are hot but wow, when they slum they are horrid

How bad is Stubbs at the plate? The golden sombrero again last nite althouh the last one had a questionable call or two.

He his .381 this year when he puts the ball in play. .381. That is damned good.

Sure....they are the or close to the highest scoring team in the NL, but they get their runs in bunches.

Dusty had every chance in the world with the Giants (up 3 games to 2, at home 5-1 lead top of the 7th...full bullpen available).....in the WORLD SERIES

Dusty didn't do much to slow down the bleeding with a huge lead late in the game of the clinching game 6 for the Cubs.

Dusty is a good guy and probably a great father and friend......but he will not lead the Reds to anything....or anyone else.

As a Pirates fan, I can help you with that. It sucks. Ass. The last couple years, the late part of the season has been "Heretic pays much more attention to minor league stats than anything going on in Pittsburgh".

This year, I am loving the additional stress of having a team currently in contention. Sure, I might have screamed a profanity when fucking Volquez gave up that three-run homer that really helped turn a 2-1 game into a blowout, since I wanted the Cards to lose...and yeah, those two one-run losses in the series with Nats over the weekend SUCKED ASS, but it's nice to simply care about baseball in July because the team is in contention for the lead. The season ended in June last year. I'm happy that's not the case this year.

Cards win 7-2. 2 meaningless solo shots late for the Reds.

That's one of the two big problems the Reds have. They're either ON or they're OFF. Capital letters intentional because they just don't have much middle ground. The other is their starting pitching. Cueto and Leake (since returning) have been solid, but they give up early runs too often.

Becuaes I have no life.....

REds are averaging 4.67 runs/game. 5th best in MLB.

When you break it down, 41% of the time this team scores 3 runs or less.

Their MODE avg runs per game is 2. They have scored two runs in a game more often than anything else.

Their median is 4 runs, meaning they score over 4 just as often as they score under 4.

IN order of what they have scored most has been 2, 3, 4, 7, 6, 1, and so on.

Cardinals avg pretty much teh seame runs per game as the reds at 4.67/game.

The difference I think is this:

WHen you break it down they score 3 runs or less in 39% of the games.
In order of how often the score a certain number of runs: 3,5,6&4 tied, and so on

The reds scored 2 runs or less 31 times this year. The cards have scored two runs or lesss in only 16.

Right there tells us what we need to know.

That is way better than the lineup I was guessing he'd throw out there. It's point blank obvious the Reds don't have a #4 hitter, personally I'd keep everyone else where it's best for them....but will not complain as no Stubbs or Janish.

Renteria won't strike out as much, will see better pitches, and may extend innings. Will he hit the ball, I really don't think he will, but maybe he will grind a little more in the batters box and can help votto see better pitches.
