For real? I mean, he's old and SHOULD retire but everything I read said he was sticking out the contract. If it's true, thus ends one of the greatest NBA careers ever.

Most physically dominant Center to ever play the game IMO.

His run from the early 90s to early 2000s was dominating. Between the 93/94 season and the 02/03 season he averaged 11.9 rpg, 3.0 apg, 2.5 bpg, and 28.1 ppg.

When you're so dominating that opposing teams have to come up with a strategy designed to exploit your ONE weakness (Hack-a-Shaq), that says a lot about how unstoppable you were.

I was in my early teens when Shaq burst onto the scene at LSU and then got drafted by Orlando. He was, without question, my favorite athlete for several years.

I would take Shaq in his prime over any player except MJ.

One dominating MoFo!

I have been a fan ever since he put up like 40 against my fav college team, IU. Think he hit 12-12 from the FT line in that loss to IU in the loss.

Dude could flat out dominate games. He was on what, three teams that went to the finals? Probably coulda won in Orlando but some guy missed some very important FT's at the end of the game in the finals and it sucked the life out of the magic...but i digress and could be totally wrong

Do you want me to pass it?

Those are impressive numbers except when you compare them to what Wilt Chamberlain (most dominant center ever imo) did from 59-71 seasons: 33.0 ppg 23.6 rpg 4.5 apg they didn't keep track of blocks back then but i would imagine he had a lot.

Neon Badeau was great.
Enjoy retirement. Best center to play the game I'd say.

One of the greats for sure. Personally I'd rather have Hakeem, but Shaq was pretty dominant.

Bingo.

He missed 4 straight FT's while up by three in the finals. They got swept so one could say it would not have made a difference but I remember watching the NBA back in the day....those missed FT's and losing that game devastated the Magic and they never recovered. It is tough for to say that if he makes them, or enough for them to win, and they win game one that they win the series because they were swept and all, but damn at the time it let all the air out of them for the series.

Didn't Wilt play in an era where the next tallest person was like 6'8?

I remember that quite well and couldn't agree more. Orlando was toast (mentally) after that.

One of my all time favorite players. When the Cavs sucked ass during his run with the Lakers, I found myself rooting for him, even though I could never stand Kobe.

He was the best Center of all time and probably the greatest showman as well.. He had the personality to go with the talents.

My all time favorite moment came when he was still in LA and Bill Walton was doing one of his games..

Shaq was hitting everything inside, dunks, jump hooks, etc.. He catches the ball just inside the 3 point line and without missing a beat Bill Walton says "SHOOT IT SHAQ, YOU'RE HOT!"...

It was fucking hilarious, mainly due to the way Bill said it.
