How's this sound to take over for the Herbie?

I believe it would draw MUCH more interest.

Take the 6 Northern big boys and the 6 Southern big boys.

Say in 2010, 2 yr. contracts at a time.

St. Ignatius vs Cin. Princeton 10:00 am
Glenville vs Cin. St. X 3:00 pm
St. Edward vs Cin. Elder 8:00 pm

At Nippert Stadium (Cincinnati)

On the same day,

Cin.LaSalle vs Warren G. Harding 10:00 am
Cin. Colerain vs Canton McKinley 3:00 pm
Cin. Moeller vs Massillon Washington 8:00 pm

At Infocision Stadium (Akron)

The next year (say 2011 in this case) you either play the same team, OR you rotate, it doesn't matter, but, the 6 that played in Akron now play in Cincinnati and vice versa.

You could get a big sponsor like Taco Bell or BK and bill it as

"The Taco Bell Civil War"

I believe it would draw a bigger interest as I believe many fans of the teams from game 1 would stay to see #2 and #3, and many fans of 3 would show up early and check out game #1 and #2.

And seeing as how their all Ohio teams, and you could run into one of them later in the season, it would help the attendence.

I like the Kirk Herbstreit event better but it does need so tweaking.

you're going to leave out a lot of quality football teams from many other areas of the state by focusing on just Cincy and Cleveland....

I like the Herbie much better but I'd like to see them feature some of the small school teams in the state; we all saw how good of football this state plays in D6 yesterday

I argee pitcher, this is just one idea though, there could be more "events", I'm not trying to discount the quality of football in places like C-bus, Y'yown and places like that.

I also agree you could get the smaller schools involved also, somehow.

It's just a North vs South kind of thing, you know, like the actual Civil War.

I like the idea and it seems solid, just thinking you need a way to get everyone involved or there's going to be a lot of bellyaching around the state.

I think you would have to include Mooney in on this also... Even though they are D3, I think they could have taken the D1 title.

What if you did a two day event in both locations and go one game from each division at each site?

The problem with this is just like all the other events...MONEY!!

In order for any of this to happen, you have to have some sponsors with DEEP pockets. This is the problem the Herbie and other similar events have had. It costs tons to gets the facilities and teams together. Then you have to work with teams schedules and venues. It is a giant undertaking.

As stated before you have to find the BEST teams in the state and match them head to head. I think one of the problems you would have is getting teams and their fans to travel to Cincy from the North and to the North from Cincy.

It's a great idea, but a massive undertaking. Then you have to find someone with time enough to run the darn thing...Kirk's dad does a great job, but even he has help. Not sure who would sponsor it, but my guess would be a Major National Chain of some kind. Papa John's, Dick's, or maybe Sears. Just some names that come to mind.

If you just focus on Cleveland and Cincy, you will have a real civil war on your hands. The out of state match ups are what makes it interesting. There just needs to be more in depth research as to who the stronger programs will be in Ohio for the upcoming season.

HD, I see what you mean, BUT, the draw would be the Northern teams, say Massillon, McKinley and Warren would supply (obviously) the largest portion of the fan base, with another good amount just coming out to see the Colerains, or the St. X's etc.... Because they (the northern fans) don't get to see them very often, and obviously, the southern teams would bring some fans as well. Same thing in the south, those teams would supply the biggest portion of fans, with a certain amount coming from the north, and again, the southern fans who rarely get to see the Massillons, McKinleys, Ignatius's, Glenvilles and so on.
