What is the criteria for a "good beer?"

Only one beer for the rest of my life? One beer isn't going to last very long since I plan on living for another 40-50 years.

Depends on the style. Google "beer judging criteria".

Yeah, different beers are made different ways. I would say, as a general rule, the quality of the ingredients and the process by which it is brewed would encompass most of it.

Much in the same way they grade the quality of food. As mentioned earlier, something made with Grade A steak and fresh vegetables/ingredients is going to be of a higher quality than something made with Grade D beef and flash frozen or artificially preserved ingredients.

However, preference is preference. I'll take Taco Bell over Chipotle or Qboda any day, even though I know that the latter two are of MUCH higher quality than the former.

It's a comfort food thing. My point was that I recognize that Taco Bell isn't even in the same ballpark in terms of quality.

In essence, Taco Bell is the Natty Light/Busch/Coors/OM/PBR of fast food, and I'm okay with that. :D

That depends upon the style and how one plans to imbibe it. If we're chugging beer to get drunk than I imagine smoothness would be a very big criteria. For a hot summer day I'd think crispness and refreshing would be good. Other times you want to savor a beer so the nose might be important as well as all the other subtleties like the head, finishing notes, etc.

How each of us define what is good in those categories is likely to be different but you can identify quality items in food. I love Taco Bell but I'm not going to pretend it's better than food made at a decent restaurant with good ingrediants. Does that mean I always want to eat at the restaurant instead of Taco Bell? No, but me wanting Taco Bell instead doesn't change my realization that the other food is better.

Wow. For what you've paid/paying for both I could have bought at least 90 used cars.

I'm curious to know...what kind of truck you can get for 60k?

It still hard to think of just ONE beer for the rest of your life lol....but Kronenbourg 1664 is probably on my list. Very smooth.

I drive a $60,000 truck and will have a new CTS very soon. But you insinuate that because I like Coors Light I'm a certain class of person. That's what makes you a beer snob, not the beer you drink, the fact that you turn your nose up at people who drink "lesser beer" as if you're some higher class of person. It's hilarious. I could care less what kind of beer you drink, to each his own--eat, drink and be merry. But you seemed to be the one who had a problem with what someone else wanted to drink--that is what makes you a beer snob.

lol. This is right up there "least I have a GF" statement. Tell us about your watch next. Lot of dumbasses living in the hood waste money on cars as well. They're a terrible wate of money. Nice fail. Also I bet you begged your grandpa to buy the CTS and "your" $60k truck. lmao IPOTW.

Honestly, as far as lighter lagers go, you could do a lot worse.

I actually enjoy these.

My girlfriend is the same way. She'll take Taco Bell over Chipotle EVERY time.

As for beer, I'm sure the same applies. Everyone has different likes/dislikes.

Caffrey's ale. Had this in Canada, creamy and smooth. Drinkability through the roof but has enough flavor to be interesting. Not sold in the USA because Coors bought it and didn't want it to complete with killians. (not that it tasted anything like killians.) Hopefully they haven't screwed it up either.

I'm a big fan of pale lagers and pilsners. I like "refreshing" beers. Don't get me wrong dark beers are great, but it all depends on the time of the year for me. I prefer to drink the heavy stuff when paired with good food.

Very complex beer. First smell and taste was aweful, second was better, by the end of the bottle, it was very good beer. It was bizarre.

Just found one that might take this spot. Split a bomber of it tonight with a friend. Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Style Ale. Potent, but smooth, and goes VERY well with a Gran Habano 3 Siglos cigar.
