Damn thats a hard question. I like all beers, obviously some more than others.

Right now I'm on a Stella kick, but I'll have to go with "old faithful".....Budweiser.

And before the high beer douchers comment....I've had it all. Craft beers, micro brews, imports, domestics...whatever.

Cars are not different. You're telling me there is a single metric to decide what the best car is? You might say something with an incredible engine but I might disagree and say it's one with the best fuel economy while another may say some other vehical is more stylish.

And you seem to be of the opinion that because something cannot be directly measured with one variable then you cannot comment on it's quality (IE $5 is greater than $4).

This question is kind of open ended anyway because we all drink beer for different reasons. Sometimes it's to get drunk, others to enjoy the taste of a beer with food, to compliment a nice day, relax, drown our troubles, etc. Which is why it makes it so hard to answer definitivly.

I think that was his point. Availability, popularity (whether or not everyone has heard of it), price, and mass production are ALL likely reasons that McDonald's burgers are more popular, even though the quality of beef is lower than many other burgers you may find.

And believe it or not, quality grade of ingredients can indeed be quantified in beer, just as they can in other foods. If I use lean Grade A meat in my burgers, there is a quantifiable difference than if I was to use Taco Bell leftover "meat."

Of course people have different tastes, but McDonalds is processed, cheaper cars come with less features, and mass produced beers are made with cheap adjuncts like corn and rice to reduce the flavor. Everybody can have an opinion, but there is a reason why it is cheap.

If that is the case, my hat is off. I don't mind Budweiser, though it's not my choice (always kinda saw it as the vanilla of beer). I have plenty of respect for someone who has tried a lot and settles on something, because that is an informed choice.

And too, quality isn't everything. Sometimes comfort is the key. I love Taco Bell, though I will fully recognize that the food is of poor quality. That sort of recognition is not unrealistic.

Right. This topic was about what people would drink, not what people think is of the highest quality. Desirable and quality are not synonymous with everyone (see my Taco Bell example above).

Had a Dogfish variation the other night at the Old Bag of Nails - whatever it was (can't remember the name), it clocks in at 13% and had a hell of a snap to it. It was good - but one or two 10-oz glasses of this would be about all I would want at a time. Anyone know what that might have been?

Actually, some people have a point with the old standbys. I read that ONE more beer to drink and going to go for my favorite. Now if we're talking just one beer to choose from every time you drink, then a lot of the premium beers and microbrews might be disqualified. I love Guinness, but it's not the beer for every occasion.

That's a tough choice. Yeah, I might even go with Bud Select. More likely it's a toss-up between Amstel Light, Dos Equis and Perone. And Corona with a lime just brings back so many good memories. Plus consider food - Bud is something I could probably only drink with pizza or a hamburger or hot dog. Perone goes pretty well with every food.

I've never had it out of a bottle. Always drank it from the tap and I agree it's addictiing as shit..seriously is some of the smoothest, drinkable "snob" beer around

I drive a $60,000 truck and will have a new CTS very soon. But you insinuate that because I like Coors Light I'm a certain class of person. That's what makes you a beer snob, not the beer you drink, the fact that you turn your nose up at people who drink "lesser beer" as if you're some higher class of person. It's hilarious. I could care less what kind of beer you drink, to each his own--eat, drink and be merry. But you seemed to be the one who had a problem with what someone else wanted to drink--that is what makes you a beer snob.

See, I didn't read what he said that way.

I think he was paralleling it to vehicles.

For example, if you were to say that your truck or (soon) CTS was of better quality than my '01 Chevrolet Impala, you may very well be right. There are quantifiable metrics for gauging this.

And as I said, I enjoy high end beers and cigars, but I enjoy low-end fast food, drive a 10-year-old economy car, and live in a modest house. I don't think your beer defines you as a person. Your beer defines your beer. Unless I'm mistaken (and I may be, as we seem to have taken his words differently), he was commenting on your beer, not you as a person.

Personally, I think Coors tastes like what I could only imagine as carbonated piss. Doesn't mean I might not still think you're cool as hell. Just means I think your crazy when it comes to beer. That's all.

To be honest I was just fucking with you at first and it clearly worked as the panties are quite twisted in this thread. I do think Coors is a shitty beer but to each his own. Doesn't mean I'll stop thinking or saying Coors is a shitty beer but whatever.

I wasn't associating it with class either and the car comment was to counter sleepers "the more popular a thing is the better it is" argument. That's not true. And as I said, because it's popular doesn't make it bad either. It just means it's likely inexpensive.

Are we doing beers by seson? Yea, stouts are good for the winter.

For the late spring, fall seasons I'm going Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. Pumpkin and brown sugar, other spices. The bomb.



The summer, or regular indoors can't go wrong with Dogfish IPA-30 or 60 min.

I don't like to drink a lot of beer at one time, about 3 or 4 is my limit anymore. So I usually prefer a more full-bodied beer. I haven't found any lite beer that I care for.

If I had only one beer to drink for the rest of my life it would probably be Great Lakes Christmas Ale. Other possibilties would be Sam Adams Boston Lager, any number of IPA's or even a good cold Killians.

I've tried some great local micro-brews as I've travelled around the country but I can't remember the names of most of them.

Why one likes and doesn't like is totally subjective. Good beer vs. bad beer is not the same, and far more objective.
