Yeah I know, the horse is being tortured because they are working to hard. Some of these horses are in great physical/muscular shape, I'd be willing to bet back in the sub-modern days when horses were the only means of transportation the thought would be different. In these modern days things are looked on much differently.

For the most part Amish take care of their horses, but not all, equally as well as most people care of their cars.

Dude, the Amish DO NOT take good care of their horses. They overwork a bunch of lame underfed skinny horses. A horse being lame isn't just "pain is weakness leaving the body" kind of thing, it is a serious health issue. Horse trainers will not race a horse that is lame. I see more lame horses during a weekend in Amish country than I have in 26 years of showing horses. The few friends I know who are vets in Amish country say that the horses up there are in the worst shape they have ever seen.

I agree that some are are scum and have no care at all for their horses but to suggest that all Amish horses are treated the same is not a fair statement.
I have 37 years of first hand experience with the Amish, just a bit more time than a weekend trip or second hand info from your vet friends.

My vet friends provide medical treatment to these horses every day. I think they would know. They don't care about their horses, all they care about are their cows.
I think your opinion of proper care and treatment of horses is skewed due to your experience only being with the Amish. They don't take good care of their horses, and that is a fact.

No, I'm nice to everyone until I have a reason not to be. I didn't have a single bad thing to say about the Amish until I spent some time around them.
