Your tax dollars at work.
A yearlong sting operation, including aliases, a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and surreptitious purchases from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania, culminated in the federal government announcing this week that it has gone to court to stop Rainbow Acres Farm from selling its contraband to willing customers in the Washington area.

I’m sure there’s people selling crack in town that they don’t put this much of a concerted effort towards.

...Amazing, I can't find the undercover agents...anyone else?

I guess that's what makes them the nations finest in law enforcement!

Ridiculous to do a whole sting and all that. Just come in and do a surprise inspection, ticket him and be done with it.

I am sure that the tax consequences far out weigh the criminal ones...

Good. I hate those bastards. That picture is a good example of one of the reasons--they take up half the road with their slow ass 1700's style form of transportation, the buggies are HARD on the roads and they don't pay road taxes because they don't buy gas. Not the only tax they're exempt from. I genuinely hate the Amish--they're all assholes too.

They also underfeed and run their horses to death. I loved when we were in Amish country, my fiancee just kept driving around saying "lame horse, lame horse, lame horse"

I have never knowingly nor will I ever buy anything "amish" made. It's a scam that they don't have to participate in paying taxes, but have all the conveniences that are afforded the rest of us that do pay taxes. They're horse & buggies do more damage to the roads than my car does, yet they're absolved from helping to pay for upkeep.

I'd be fine if they weren't all assholes and if they paid towards roads.

You can not buy gas and not pay that tax. They are still subject to that tax, just because they don't consume it does not mean that they are exempt.

... Haven't you ever seen those "Yoder toters" @ the Speedways in the morning loaded w/Amish going to work since they don't drive. They pay the guy who buys the gas, so technically they ARE paying for gas and the taxes on the gas.

Um, yes it does. I HAVE to buy gas. The government takes 48 cents or whatever it us from every gallon (but Exxon is evil, they get like 6 cents a gallon) to pay for the roads. You don't buy gas, you don't pay that tax. Yet they use the roads and their buggies actually are very hard on asphalt. They shouldn't be exempt from ANY tax and they are, it's a clear violation of the separation of church and state.

LOL, that does not mean they are exempt from that tax, it's a consumption tax. You don't consume any, you don't pay any. If that is your logic, technically, I am exempt from the tax on candy because I don't buy any, I am exempt from the tax on cigarettes since I don't buy any, etc etc. All it means is I am not consuming the goods that are taxed. Maybe those localities need to find a different way to fund roads? Oh wait, they already pay property tax, maybe it comes out of there.

I understand that, thing is you don't use cigarettes and avoid the tax. They USE the roads and avoid the tax. How many times have you seen a bearded douche bag sticking a gas pump into the asshole of his horse? Yeah, never. It's bullshit. Fuck those people, it's 2011, not 1711.

It's a gas tax, not a road use tax. Your argument is invalid.
