The gas tax pays to maintain the roads--at least part of it, within our government I'm sure it's something stupid like 50% of it pay for salaries of unnecessary employees. They USE the road and they don't pay the tax that pays to repair the roads and they operate a vehicle that does quite a bit of damage to the road. Not sure how the hell you think my argument is invalid.

Because it is not a road use tax, it is a gas use tax. Just because some of the money is appropriated for roads, doesn't make it a road use tax. Do you call the federal income tax a Welfare Tax?

That picture is a good example of one of the reasons--they take up half the road with their slow ass 1700's style form of transportation, the buggies are HARD on the roads and they don't pay road taxes because they don't buy gas. Not the only tax they're exempt from. I genuinely hate the Amish--they're all assholes too.
This was copied from the Dover Times Reporter 10/29/10 issue. This is there way of paying road taxes. Notice it says this is the 4'th time they have helped in this way since 2005

The Holmes County Amish Steering Committee, a subgroup of the Amish Safety Committee, donated $50,000 to a Road Maintenance Fund that will help pay for upcoming resurfacing work on sections of buggy lanes along Rt. 39 between Rt. 515 at Walnut Creek and Rt. 62 at Berlin.
Repair work also is planned for Rt. 515 in front of the Carlisle Inn and Rt. 39 eastbound between Rt. 515 and Walnut Creek Cheese. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers.
In accordance with Section 5501.33(A) of the Ohio Revised Code, any organization, individual or group of individuals may give money to the Ohio Department of Transportation to pay expenses the state incurs in maintaining, repairing or reconstructing state highways and roads upon which animal-drawn vehicles travel.
“This is the fourth time we’ve been able to apply these monies to the roadway since this section was established in the ORC during ODOT’s 2004-2005 Biennium Budget process,” said Richard A. Bible, ODOT District 11 deputy director at New Philadelphia.
“We are thrilled with this partnership and very appreciative of the Amish community’s generosity and willingness to assist us with roadway maintenance and repairs this way.”
ODOT’s Holmes County maintenance crews and Holmes Supply Corp. of Holmesville will begin the work Tuesday and it is expected to take one week to complete. ODOT also is contributing about $50,000 toward this project.

That's because people who aren't trying to live like it's 300 fucking years ago drive cars. The tax wouldn't exist if not for the need to maintain roads due to people driving on them. They drive on them. They don't buy gas. Therefore they don't pay for the roads that they destroy.
Whatever, I'm done. I cry happy tears when I see a story about an entire Amish family in a buggy getting hit by a semi because I realize that we're that much closer to ridding the world of mindless religious fanatics who create more problems than they solve.

I don't share his zeal for Amish misery but the gas tax is essentially a tax to provide funding for the upkeep of our roads. To deny this is incorrect.

I never said the tax was not appropriated for road upkeep. It is not a road use tax. To deny that is incorrect.

I've had some nightmare encounters with Amish people, they aren't the friendly, nice people that some claim. And my experiences have come from different areas of the country and it seems to be the same everywhere. Can't stand them. I'm not really a fan of any extremely religious group and they're about as extreme as it gets. Most of my experiences have come from having to work with them on construction projects or whatever, they're bullshit.

They are forced to pay "X" amount of dollars per buggy, carriage, surrey...etc. You obviously are ignorant on your misleading facts.
Also, many have 100-250 gallon gas tanks on their property where the damn gas truck comes to their farms and fills their tanks. Such ignorance.

I've never had it explained to me, why do the Amish allow technology up until a few hundred years ago and then after that say "no, fuck that God wants us to stay stuck in 1792"?

Dude the Amish are the epitome of bullshit religion. They're huge hypocrites in a religion game filled with hypocrites. They aren't stuck in 1792, they use technology and shit anyways, but they have so many protections from government because of their religion. It's a bunch of bullshit. Call me ignorant all you want, those people fucking suck.

I doubt it...... most, if not all, Amish don't have birth certificates or social security numbers.

You are correct, this is because you can buy OFF ROAD gas which is tax free. Ask any farmer and they will tell you about off road gas. OFF ROAD gas means just that. No tax for the ROADS. You are correct!!!!!
