I knew Woodfest was happening and decided not to go. Couldn't do that to my body after Dayglow on Friday. Nonetheless it is ridiculous how the cops reacted. I'm not saying the students were justified in their actions, but it seemed like the cops retaliated with a blind rage and random abuse of authority. I have friends who are honors students and productive undergraduates, not degenerates as everyone in attendance seems to be classified as, who were all legally drinking at Woodfest causing no problems and got maced for no reason other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

BTW, I agree that the zombie kids are fags. One jumped out from behind a car in the parking garage and aimed his nerf gun at me. He's lucky I didn't knock him flat on his fat ass.

Oh please. I went there for 5 years and saw a grand total of ZERO parties that ever resulted in any of the damages you listed. Unless you consider one night stands sexual assault.

I feel sorry for noone that was at this party. I see no need for a clusterfuck party like that. Having been at parties much, mauch smaller than that, it's no fun when there's a total shitload of people around.

My house is on Frambes right across the alley from where this was. I was there for a little bit but we had gone out to the bars by the time the police brutality started.

The police spraying mace isn't that big of a deal in a huge party like that that they were unsuccessful in breaking up. And the fact that only three people were arrested tells me most people were smart enough to obey them. Kind of surprising there were ONLY three dumbasses.

As for steel valley, isn't he the one that has his daughter locked in the basement?

I live on Frambes too. I walked past Woodfest at around 10 or 10:30 headed to Iuka before things got too crazy but still had cops driving past bull rush out of a car at me calling me a "knucklefuck" (I kid you not) and screaming for me to dump out my (unopened) beers.

Okay first off Steel Valley Football needs to fuck himself.

Also, I have never and will never attend a "fest" at Ohio State. It's just an attempt to copy Ohio U, but Columbus have never allowed streets to become party zones. You're literally asking to get raided.

That said I live on Norwich and was walking to Out-R-Inn when all of this went down. Glad I didn't head down and get arrested, my probation from an underage says I can't be near alcohol until August. Good thing they don't serve alcohol at Out-R-Inn.. :)

I should clarify that I didn't mean every OSU party ends up that way. However over the years, giant street parties left unchecked lead to trouble. I've seen it happen over and over again, including my time in school there. If you don't like that, I don't know what to tell you.

My bigger point is regardless of what you think about the police, you can just about guarantee yourself avoidance of trouble with them if you take certain precautions. Don't find yourself in the street when they're clearing it, don't throw bottles at them, don't act like a beligerant jerk. You can argue about how unfair the police are until the cows come home. The fact is that it makes no difference what you think about it. If your out drinking at a party, you better think through your actions. Do that and you'll never have to worry.

This is true. I knew Woodfest wouldn't last long because CPD won't allow street fests due to past ones turning out of control.

Was the force unnecessary? I won't ever know. The people who were there will say yes, and the people who weren't will say no.

I don't know what some of you are talking about, but OSU hasn't had much trouble since around 2002. The last big time "rioting" I remember came after we beat Michigan to go on to play Miami for the title.

I also recall some issues when Texas came to town and won and after the #1 vs #2 UM game. Both of those times the police presence was beefed up and nothing really came of it.

People who think this happens all the time at OSU are living in the past. Right after Holbrook became president there was a big push to clean up OSU's "image." No more open containers for tailgaiting, more police, Lane Ave now open on game days, etc.

A thinking man. As long as there are college students drinking in mass, it makes zero difference whether the police are actually being fair or unfair. Drunk students versus sober police will NEVER be judged in the students' favor. So the best route to follow is to not put yourself in a bad situation. The posters on here who talked about being at the party and then leaving when it was clear the cops were going to be arriving have the right idea. Have an exit plan when you go drinking with large groups. Do that, and you'll never find your mug shot on NBC 4.

While I was at OSU, there was sort of an unwritten code the police and student both understood. The police ignore underage drinking, loud music, and general partying unless:

1) You go out into the street with your drink
2) There is a fight

Pretty simple.

hell they even let most fights go from my experience, usually make us walk different ways from our "opponents"

I won't even argue with that. They once pulled up to a party I was at where there was like a 15 person brawl going on. All he did was turn on his sirens, flash his lights and drive off after everybody ran from the scene. The cop didn't even get out of his car, but he did break up the fight.

Ahh, memories, reminds me of our 13-keg party on Chittenden which resulted in a cop helicopter hovering above my apartment and an Outsiders-style brawl that started on my front lawn and worked its way down to High Street haha. Man I miss college.

I was just sharing some thoughts with him. He can take them or leave them. In my experience, people in college who get all worked up about the behavior of the cops are missing the point. He got mad because I said OSU parties degenerate to mayem. I wasn't meaning literally every single party, but the huge street fest type things. He took that personally and dropped and f-bomb over it.
