See I think you're right, but the timeframe sort of implies that he did the latter and not the former.

Tressel can't be held accountable for everything that happens, but he certainly knew of the relationship with the car dealer. That was just far too obvious.

This actually is not out of line. Not just at OSU, anywhere. When you hear these kids whine about having no money, and how poor their parents are, wouldn't you wonder where they get the money to get tats up and down both arms?

I honestly don't know what to believe anymore the story has changed so many times, but I thought all of the stuff they sold was from their freshman year? If it happened and Tressel put a stop to it then I don't think he's dirty. (He still broke the rule, but I can live with him accepting the punishment he's been given.)

I still can't believe the Lantern published that story. It's owned by the University. How does that editor keep his job?

Lantern says they recorded his confession. Ray says they twisted his words.

Like I said yesterday, Ray is questionable himself, why of any players you'd publish his comments is beyond me.

Here is my take.

The Lantern printed exactly what Small said. That being said, I think that Small's comments, much like Pryor's comments about Mike Vick, were probably the result of his inability to accurately convey what he truly meant. Now this doesn't excuse him for what he did at Ohio State and what he said in his interview with the Lantern, but I think his poor speaking skills probably enabled his words appear much more damaging than he truly meant.

I agree and see it like this as well. Obviously "everyone" isn't doing it but his words were damaging.

Yeah they were damaging, but I think this will all blow over. I mean HBO ran that special on ex-Auburn players admitting to getting paid and nothing really has come of it, and this was far less damaging than those accusations.

I think people know exactly what he meant. Almost seems like they are trying to discredit everything by taking "everyone" literally. I mean, give me a break, did everyone think he actually meant every single person to don a Buckeye football uniform?

Of course it isn't. Coaches and the staff can get free or "donated" whatever they want.

If a coach and a player walk into a restaurant, the very well paid coach gets a meal on the house, the player pays with their last dime.

This is common practice at schools all over the country.

I've seen players driving the Chargers as well. I've actually said it on here several times even prior to the Dispatch report.
