Agreed. He needs another year in Louisville to learn patience and pitch selection.

Francisco comes up twice with two outs and two on, and both times pops up on a first pitch breaking ball.

The problem is Francisco has developed and produced in the minors already. It's going to be tough for him to get the experience he needs in the big leagues on a playoff contender...but it's also tough to give up on a talent like him who is only 23...

Yes, I think the minors don't help - he needs to see if he can get himself together on MLB pitching!

Yeah, the situation kind of reminds me of the Wily Mo Pena situation. Too good for the minors, not discipled enough to unseat a starter.

Also, if Francisco had more ability at 3B, he would be a very viable option for rebuilding or rising teams to trade for because they could afford to play him at the hot corner and work on plate discipline and get experience with the bat. Right now, he's basically a backup infielder who is more suited for DH or 1B, but who isn't yet at a point where someone would give him PT at those spots.

Melancon (who??) replaces Myers
Stubbs pops out to right for the third time today.
Phillips lines one through the middle.
Here comes another pitching change.

Unless he uses Janish or Heisey at 3B, I would think he has to. Cairo has already been used.

If Gomes gets to bat, and the Reds get the lead, Dusty can put Heisey in left in Francisco's spot, and the pitcher can bat in Gomes spot.

I would think that around the trade deadline, he could be trade bait to a team that is out of contention, but needs a 3B and has a veteran that is at the end of his contract who could contribute.

Abad comes on and Votto promptly smacks a single.
Gomes gets in an 0-2 hole, then pops out to right.

Tied up and now it's our bullpen against theirs. I like our chances.

How about that? Promising for Gomes to try for RF, but didn't work out this time.

WMP was originally signed by the Mets but it got voided for some reason I cannot remember. He was only like 16-17 years old. He signed a deal with the Yankees that guarenteed he would be in MLB within 4 years so when he was traded to the reds he had to be in the majors.

I think that really hurt his growth as a player. He coulda played a ton in the minors and refined his game.

I can remember him in dayton tho with the dragons..in BP he would hit some monster big flies outta the stadium

Dusty went through with this even though he didn't get the lead. Best defensive team on the field except for SS.

Jason had no chance on that excellent breaking ball by Masset.

Top 8th Inning
Heisey in left, Masset pitching
Matt Downs (again, who??) strikes out looking on a 1-2 curveball. Looked clueless.
Bourgeois Ks on a 1-2 curveball. Looked lost.
Sanchez hits one past the SS on the first pitch he sees.
Pence ducks away from Masset's curve to get his second strike. (Looked scared.) But draws a walk.
Lee hits one to Francisco's left that he fields and throws down the line pulling Votto off the bag. But, Votto makes a nice play to tag Lee to get the out.

I thought he did, when Heisey was in left, but I realized he gave Rolen the day off except for the pinch hit HR, when I saw Francisco nearly blow the 3rd out for Masset. Must be planning to have Nick pitch 2 innings.
