I ran across this column in the Sunday St. Louis Post-Dispatch and it seemed, to me, to be the most accurate description of the once-again popular "birther" craze that seems to be sweeping the GOP. Pitts' comments at the end of his column are particularly aggressive in his description of this "movement". I've been wondering for a long time now when someone was going to call out the birthers for what they are and I think Pitts has done it. What are your comments?

Let the mudslinging begin...

I'm not a birther by any means, but it boggles the mind that so many people get this angry because a group of people want the President to prove, beyond all reasonable doubt, that he was born in this country.

When he (Obama) spends something like $2 million fighting these folks, it stirs one to wonder what he had to hide, and why hasn't he produced the entire birth certificate that is being sought?

Now you've got Donald Trump involved who said in a recent interview that he didn't have any prior doubts about Obama's birthplace until he saw how much the President was fighting this, and he started having more doubts and became suspicious.

All this defensiveness, from Obama on down, makes you wonder IF there is something to hide here.

I don't think it makes any difference, quite frankly, so far as him being President. I honestly don't see anything changing even if they prove he was born in Kenya. The only thing that would kill him politically would be the lie perpetuated that he was born in Hawaii...and it would be another case of a coverup being much worse than the actual "crime".

For the forums' sake ;), does everything concerning Obama have to be a race issue?!

I mean no matter what is negatively said about him, or disagreement, whatever... people are always saying it's about race. Or implying it.

Do they not understand that using the race card is getting to be detrimental to their cause/arguments?

My thoughts exactly. I didn't give a rat's behind when it first came up, but the fact he wont' clear it up only perpetuates it. In the end, it's a game of chicken because he chooses NOT to disuade it. It could be cleared up in a heartbeat, but no, he chooses not to do it. Why not? Does he like the hysteria it creates? Does he think by belittling others he's seen in a better light? Or...is Trump right?

Regarding your last statement, if it ever comes out that he's not born of American soil, then any legislation that he signed will also be null and void. If he doesn't have the authority to be president, then he also does not have the authority to enact presidential duties. For this reason, if it is ever discovered after he leaves office that he violated the Constitutional qualifications to hold the office, then his entire presidency falls like a house of cards. At this point, he can NEVER admit nor show any documents contrary to his "Certificate of Live Birth" canard, else there are much larger issues to crumble. It will be interesting to see how much Trump can make his squirm as The Donald isn't flummoxed by a lack of funds to get what he wants.

I'm not a "birther" by any means. Do I believe he was born in the US? I honestly have no idea one way or another.

However, to suggest that anyone who questions where he was born is a racist is moronic at best.

And also perpetuates the question of why he won't simply provide what's being asked for.

He already has proven it....

Will these fucking birthers never stop

Trump has alot of room to talk....as he himself most likely isn't eligible to serve as President

Do any of you honestly think is there was ANY truth to this,Hillary or John McCain wouldn't have found it and used it?

I don't know why he would not be eligible to run, but even he isn't, he is allowed to question.

I believe that the Clinton political machine would have found something. I'm sure they looked.

Read more: Hawaii official now swears: No Obama birth certificate http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=254401#ixzz1Iro6dUcz
1.Yes he has
I understand a certificate of live birth has been given as proof. Is that correct?
2.Trump's Birth Certificate lists Jamaica as his birthplace, therefor he is not able to serve
Jamiaca Hospital of New York City

The document released to Newsmax is below. It shows that Trump was born in New York, June 14, 1946.

I really doubt there is much to the whole birther issue, but I really want to know why Obama is spending so much money on it. Like Trump, I think it looks very strange if he truly has nothing to hide.

This is from awhile back, but I thought it somewhat relevant here:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1348916/Hawaii-governor-says-Obamas-birth-record-exists-produce-it.html

Apparently the governor of Hawaii (Neil Abercrombie, Democrat) made it his personal mission to clear up the birther issue once and for all and stop all this disrespect for President Obama. Turns out his efforts are only stirring things up more and more:
Pressure was mounting on Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie today amid increasing confusion over whether President Obama was born there.
Abercrombie said on Tuesday that an investigation had unearthed papers proving Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961.
He told Honolulu's Star-Advertiser: 'It actually exists in the archives, written down,' he said.
But it became apparent that what had been discovered was an unspecified listing or notation of Obama's birth that someone had made in the state archives and not a birth certificate.
And in the same interview Abercrombie suggested that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health.
He said efforts were still being made to track down definitive vital records that would prove Obama was born in Hawaii
You don't have to be a "birther" or a nutcase to at least ask some questions about Obama's birth. The fact that millions have been spent to keep things under wraps is what is keeping this going.

Only if she registered his birth with the appropriate U.S. embassy, I believe.
