Things start out a bit tense as Berkman doubles off Hanrahan to open the inning, which makes that additional run much nicer.

Two-out double by Molina spoils the shutout, but Hanrahan gets the next batter to end the game.

Pirates win 3-1 and improve to 4-2 on the season. Two series, two series wins. It's not often I can say that about this team, so today's officially going to be a good times drinking day. As opposed to a drowning sorrows drinking day.

Home opener begins in about 10 minutes against the Rockies. Maholm vs. Some guy I've never heard of.

Blah start to the game with the Rockies putting up two in the top of the first thanks to an error on Walker. Infield defense has been an adventure so far this year.

Pirates get one run back in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. Tabata singled, got moved to third on a Walker single and then came home on a McCutchen groundout.

Maholm gives up his first earned run of the year on a Tulowitski solo homer to open the top of the fourth. Score's 3-1 now.

Pirates offense has been pretty invisible during their home opener. After opening with two straight singles, they've been held hitless the rest of the way through the first four innings.

Ahhh...the ever predictable MAHOLM MELTDOWN.

To open the sixth inning:
- R. Spilborghs doubled to right center
- C. Gonzalez singled to shallow right, R. Spilborghs scored
- T. Tulowitzki doubled to left center, C. Gonzalez scored, T. Tulowitzki out at third

At least he...well, someone on the team...was able to get one guy out.

Last year, Esmil Rogers made 28 appearances with eight being starts for Colorado. His ERA was over 6. So far, he's given up one run on two hits through six innings. This is the first game of this year where the Pirates look like the 100 game loser they were last year. No offense against what should, in theory, be a susceptible pitcher; an error that allowed two early unearned runs and a starting pitcher who gradually let the other team get away.

Game's not over yet...but with the Rockies putting up 1-2-3 innings one after another, they're not giving me any reason to believe they'll be able to mount any sort of legit comeback.

Chris Resop joined the rest of the team in deciding today was a good day to suck. Things are now starting to officially get out of hand at 7-1.

Nothing sucks more than to lose your home opener. Well...maybe 18 consecutive losing seasons does...

Tonight was an impressive night! The team lost its home opener in piss-poor 2010 fashion, Ohlendorf gives up a three-run blast in the first inning AND then only lasts 2.2. They grind their way back into the game and wind up winning in 14 innings! That shows they at least have heart. And are now only .5 games out of the division lead. After 8 games!!!!

Baby steps...baby steps... Not out of contention by April 9 is one!

Tabata doubled off the wall to bring home the winning run, Josh Rodriguez, from first base.

The puzzling part is why Rockies manager Jim Tracy chose not to walk Tabata and face relief pitcher, Garrett Olson, who only has six career at-bats and none since 2009.

The Pirates had already used all of their position players so they didn't have anyone else to pinch hit unless they used a pitcher.

Perhaps Tracy didn't want to put the go-ahead run in scoring position but by walking Tabata the Pirates would've had runners at first and second, with two outs, but the relief pitcher Olson batting.

In a strange twist, Clint Hurdle didn't put Olson in the on-deck circle. He only had McCutchen in the on-deck circle, who would've been up after Olson. Possibly as a decoy. And Tracy just fell asleep or he just wanted the game to end.

I read about that. Could that be the first time since the fabled days of Jim Leyland that we fans can say Pittsburgh's manager outsmarted ANY opposing one?

6-4 loss tonight. It looked like they might rally in the bottom of the 9th but no dice.

You had to see the potential of the three runs coming. I agree the team is fighting. Lets hope they split tomorrow.

If there was anything good about the loss, it was that Morton gave his second straight quality start. Him being consistently solid would be a huge help.
