sherm- never heard of the video chat thing for the droids. I like the video chat for the iPhone, but it doesnt really have much use to me because I dont know many people with it. Are there any restrictions like that for the thunderbolt?

Also, I've never owned an Apple device and I have messed around with a friends iPhone and it seemed quite hard to navigate compared to my droid, but i figure that is because I am used to it.

Probably because ya use droid alot, but the same can be said about peole using the iphone, so many people use ipod touches or have played enough with them.

I have never used an ipod or anything, but I find myself more easily navigatin the iphone that the droid when I hvae them in my hands.

There are pros and cons to both systems. To the original poster with the free GPS on Android, you can use the free mapquest GPS voice turn by turn navigation app on the iPhone. I have used it a couple times and it works pretty well. As for video chat on the iPhone if you want to video chat over 3G and across platforms you can use the free Skype app. the quality isn't as good as facetime, but at least you can video chat anywhere with anyone. I debated on waiting for a 4G iPhone (if it ever comes), but with Verizon they are offering unlimited data for $30 right now with the iPhone 4. Hard to pass that up since that pricing structure will most likely change and I'm assuming 4G will more than likely be a little more expensive.

As I said, there are pros and cons to both OS, phone manufacturers, and carriers. You just have to research them and find which one works for you.

I love my iPhone.

Thanks for clearing that up some! The main reason I was attracted to the camera on the front was because of being able to skype, and for some reason I was thinking you could only skype video chat with other iPhone users. Will look into that navigation app as well.

The speed, whether it is 3g or 4g really isnt a big deal for me, as long as its not deathly slow.

3G CAN be deathly slow (and is for many VZW customers). LTE, however, is faster than a lot of people have for home broadband. People say speed doesn't matter, but when the newer LTE phones fully render a webpage 5 seconds before your old 3G does (without video), the difference will matter.

LTE really is supposed to be the real deal with speed. Many are marginally OK wih the speed of 3G and such, but apparently LTE.....really is the bee's knee

That day is already here, or nearly so. The TBolt is blazingly fast, and the Bionic should be that much better because of dual core (dual core comparisons I've seen on rednering wipe the floor with single cores). The TBolt is supposedly faster than many PC's on home broadband.

I thought Verizon would be on the same kinda cycle AT&T is on. A new IPhone comes out every year so therefor Verizon new IPhone wouldn't be available until next year.

The rumors I've heard is that the next iPhone will be able to be used on either network, so it won't be exclusive to either AT&T or Verizon.

They m ay end up ultimatel using the same LTE network and hence the iphone could work on both, but teh carriers can lock them out into using the other carrier.

4G does sound super fast, but you really need to think about how you use the phone. if you travel a lot and won't have much access to wifi then waiting for a 4G phone is probably a good idea. for me most of my data usage is done over wifi at home so the speed is not really an issue.

As far as 4g phones. Soem on the market now they market as a phone with 4g speed, not particularly a 4g phone. 4g is a speed and some of the phones that are marketed as 4g ar not a 4g phone but can reach the lower limits that would be considered 4g speed.

Also expect it ti take a number of years before 4g is real widespread. Ohio was not supposed to get 4g until 2012 I belieev in Cleveland f and Cincy in att. I dont know if the purchase of Tmobile will make that any faster.

I have the new Verizon iPhone as well as the Droid Pro. The Droid Pro is awesome for work purposes and I use it for my calendar and all emails. I use the iPhone for random personal use.

With that said, I prefer the Droid.

VZW will have LTE in about 140 "markets" (cities and suburbs/outlying areas) by the end of this year, covering about 2/3 of their customers.

OK...let's clear up a few misconceptions on this thread.

The next iPhone will not be able to go cross carrier. Verizon uses LTE for data only. The radio for voice calls will still go over CDMA. That's why Verizon can now say they can do voice/data at the same time. So if the new iPhone is LTE, they will still have to put a CDMA chip in it to work for voice calls on Verizon's network.

AT&T will not go to LTE for quite a while...probably until the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013. They will continue to use HSPA+ until then. HSPA+ is technically 4G because the definition of 4G is a network option that is significantly faster than a 3G network. That leaves a lot of room for interpretation. T-Mobile and AT&T can call their devices 4G because they are technically significantly faster than their 3G devices. However, they do not hold a candle to Verizon's LTE network. I tested the Thunderbolt, and it was able to pull down 20mb/s on average, with upload speeds close to 30mb/s.

Now...back to the next iPhone. If you are familiar with Apple's MO, they do not have two large releases in back to back years. They come out with a ground breaking device, then tweak something small on it the next year, and then come out with another ground breaking device the following year. They are always in two year cycles. Look at the iPhone 3g, and then the iPhone 3gs. Then they launched the iPhone 4 last year. Don't be surprised if this year the iPhone 4gs (or whatever name they come up with) launches this year with nothing more than a few minor tweaks over the iPhone 4. Then they would launch the iPhone 5 next year with major improvements. That's just how Apple operates.

There are also rumors out there that Apple will give AT&T a head start on future iPhone sales. Basically, AT&T will have exclusive rights for 6 months before Verizon gets the same version of the phone. I don't know how true it is, but it does make sense since AT&T still claims that they have some sort of exclusivity contract with the iPhone. So, presumably, AT&T and Verizon will not be on the same cycle of iPhone releases. They would be about 6 months apart.

Not true. I played with one for a hot minute on Friday night, and while it ws pretty darn fast, it was certainly not faster than a home PC.

Thanks for the great info.
I think that I'll keep this info to myself and not tell the wife who is a MAC girl with a Droid Eris under my business Verizon account.
