iPhone 4 vs Android

Currently have the first Motorola Droid and am looking to get a new phone. Currently seriously considering the iPhone 4. I have verizon as well. What I really like about the android is the free google navigation, because I use it a lot. But I like the iPhone because of the wider app selection and the face time (even though I read its only for iPhone to iPhone users).
What do you like more the iPhone or Android and why?
Are there any phones getting ready to come out that I should wait for and why?

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I prefer the actual iPhone 4 as a piece of hardware but the widgets on Android will keep me on a higher end Android phone until the iPhone adds something similar. Which might be never.

I'd venture to say that just about any app on iPhone can be found on Android.

pretty sure I read somewhere the iPhone has something like 200000 apps while the android has like 60000. For example, Im pretty sure the march madness app is only for iPhone. Think I recall looking for other apps before that were only iPhone

Based on what you're looking for in a device, I'd say the Thunderbolt is a solid choice.

As a Verizon customer, don't get the iPhone 4. Now that 4g devices have started coming out, you'd basically be locking yourself into an outdated technology for the next 2 years. The Thunderbolt is a really solid phone, just heard that the battery life sucks.

Motorola has a 4g device launching sometime within the next few months...the Droid Bionic. It's amazing, but I have no idea when it will hit shelves.

If you aren't hard up for getting a new phone, wait it out and see the other 4g devices that launch. If you really want to upgrade right now, go with the Thunderbolt over the iPhone 4. It'll be faster (by a TON) and you can still video chat with Qik on the Android devices.

I've had 3 Android phones and just now switched to the iPhone on Verizon..

iPhone > Android.

I'll gladly trade my widgets that I hardly cared for anyway for better quality apps, better OS performance and better messaging.

Directly before was the Evo.

I know quite a bit about the Android platform. Just not my cup of tea. Like I said, I'm not really into widgets, so that basically eliminates any advantage of Android over iOS for me.

I have been watching the tournament games, on my phone, while not at home. I have games like SFIV, Dead Space, Rainbow 6, NBA JAM and others like Plants vs Zombies on my phone..

That to me is greater than any widget.

And another thing people don't realize is, by jailbreaking you can fully customize your iPhone to your liking anyway, and there are now jailbreaks were you only have to download the program, plug your phone in, drag the file and let it do it's work.
Not to mention the ease of use with iTunes and loading up my movies, tv shows, music, etc... Oh, and the Netflix app...

Probably. Point being that when comparing the good apps for each, there probably isn't much difference.

I dont know, I tend to agree with hoops about the apps. Dont get me wrong, I love my Evo and android as a whole, but I had a lot more apps that I actually used when I still had my iphone before switching. It's a lot easier to put together a high quality app when you don't have to worry about the crazy number of phones it might need to be compatible with.

Our engineer who has been working cell sites and such for 15 years came in and discussed this the other day. He said that Droid phones will and can actually do MORE than the iphone.

...but the Iphone is set up so easy, and that the Iphone OS has been around long enough they have tweaked it enough and the general public knows how to use it, it is so easy that a kid can pick it up, or someone not technologically inclined, can easily pick it up and use it.

The droid will do the same and more, but many times is a little more difficult to do the same things.

Its that the apple OS has been around longer, already geared to the dumbest of people and it is soooooo easy to use. I do not use any apple products, but when i have an Iphone in my hand it is very easy to navigate through. The droid is more for the techno geeks and does take a bit more 'intellience' to master.

As much as a few years ago the smartphone user was almost exclusively those who were a bit more technically inclined and those using it strictly for business. Now ya have every TDH picking these things up to use them. I would say 2 years ago it was rare for a farmer, or someone over 40, to come in and want a smartphone, but now it seems they do it just as often as the young whippersnappers.

I have been watching the games as well...thanks to the Flash Player 10.2 update. I watch without a problem from any of my Android phones at the NCAA MMOD site, just like I do on my computer. The Flash capabilities of Android far outweigh any games on the iPhone, IMO.

Motorola offers their customers Motorola Media Link, which is a ridiculously easy way to sync your movies, music, etc. to your Android device. With Media Link, or other apps you can download in the market, you can sync your music wirelessly as long as your computer and phone are on the same WiFi network.

Good point on the Netflix app. I can't wait for that to come to Android.

I was able to watch games through yahoo's website on my Evo but the quality was pretty shitty. A co-worker showed me the app on her iPhone and it was much, much, much nicer.

Flash is, in general, highly overrated.
