In that case ...

OK I know I'm getting off track of this discussion, but I do have a honest question. My fiancee and I were discussing the events in japan and the fact that we noticed that Yahoo has a ticker on it's homepage tracking the number of people that have donated and amount of money that has been donated to Japan. So of course the insuing conversation was about U.S. citizens and their donating habits, both at home and abroad. At one point the issue of one of our own tragedies, 9/11, came up along with the question of whether other countries/other countries citizens sent monetary aid to the U.S.. following 9/11. And if they did, to the extent of what amount. Neither of us knew an answer at the top of our heads so I was wondering if the OC could help me out on this one.

Also, yes google is very helpful, but I barely have enough time to finish this blurb, so I haven't really had time to research myself.

I'm with MrTinkertrain. I had an uncle at Pearl Harbor in the Navy during the attack. Hard to forgive that stuff. We dropped the nukes to SAVE lives on both sides of the war or it most certainly would have been much bloodier. I ride a Honda motorcycle so there's my support.

Again, the people who live in Japan today are not the people who attacked Pearl Harbor. Did you drop the A-Bomb? Kill Native Americans? Enslave and abuse black people?

I don't know that I've helped contribute to Japan... however I've contributed to CNN's ratings by watching hour after hour of coverage... that's some pretty intensive stuff there... I keep laughing at the nuclear experts that keep coming on. One guy comes on and says "Holy Shit They're Fucked" and then another guy follows up and says "Nah I don't think its that bad"

we dropped the nukes to save OUR lives.

I had an uncle at Pearl Harbor in the Navy during the attack. Hard to forgive that stuff.
...and there are many Japanese that remember that entire families...women and children were incinerated at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
That could be hard to forgive too.

You cannot hold them bound without the reverse being true.

For the past 50 years , Japan has been a staunch Asian ally and a trading partner. Moving forward in 2011, Pearl Harbor could /should be a lot of things. Actions or inaction taken to avenge should NOT be one of them.

I'm not sure what I can send that could help as of yet.

But come on people, for years the Japanese have been plagued by having small penises, and now this.

I think that the opinions about the Japs and not feeling sorry for them should be taken into account and not called "stupid". There are people in the South who still hold deep resentments about the "War of Insurrection". So be it. That is their opinion. People lost family members. I get it.

The bottom line: help a brother out.

"They took our steel industry, they took over our electronics industry"

Really they took those things from us or our corporate big-wigs & cry baby unions lost the meaning of being competitive? I think the free market worked the way it is supposed to & said, we don't want to overpay for your high labor costs that pay for your healthcare, childcare, retirement, corporate loges @ stadiums, 13 weeks paid vacation, paid sick leave, 99 weeks of unemployment, etc.

Yankee go home, to your mounting credit card debt, don't save money for a rainy day.
