Kirk Herbstreit made a valid point of Cowherd earlier today. He said that it's possible that someone like Tressel hears about things like this all the time and that when he was told about it that he may have investigated it by telling someone in compliance or by simply going to any of the players that the source implicated to Tressel and asked them about it. If they denied it that may have been enough for him. There's eight months from April to December, so it is possible that he had been told about this and then forgot about it because they didn't believe it was true, or it's possible that if he was told and the facts weren't clear that no sort of report was filed anywhere.

Wow I didn't look at any of this since last night.....now a full blown shit storm.

I'm hoping the OSU big wigs come out and squash all of this.....but I'm not confident.

Fairly easily, copies of emails or voice-mails between OSU officials (maybe Tress) and other parties acknowledging the incident prior to December of 2010.

Exactly! If this source had hard proof would they have mentioned it in the article? It makes sense that if the source has emails or recorded conversations that Yahoo! would have mentioned that. Something like "An anonymous source has emails proving that Tressel knew in April . . ."

Also, emails don't necessarily mean much in a situation like this. Anyone could make fake emails. The NCAA has no subpoena power, so there's no way for them to get confirmation from the school or from an internet provider or email host to prove that they are legitimate unless Ohio State willingly volunteers that info.

Are you kidding me? The media these days has no integrity, especially ESPN. They will report anything even if they overhear a conversation from two grandmas.

Not really. If you have the evidence you already have the lie. What is the point of further trying to embarass the university or let it admit guilt when you have all the evidence? Does not make sense, if they had more they would have came with it to begin with. Now that means something could surface quickly because of the first article, in that case the game is changed.

Exactly. It just creates more speculation. You don't think Yahoo is just waiting for their follow up story? Every news sources across the country is citing Yahoo today, so if they can drag it out, they will.

And Yahoo has been very reputable as of late. That's what makes this story have legs.

Because Yahoo! has established itself as a reputable source and is beginning to assert itself in the sports reporting market. Because the two authors of the article have reputations to protect (Charle Robinson broke the Reggie Bush story and Dan Wetzel wrote the book Death to the BCS). These aren't some random bloggers or a start-up website trying to make a name for itself. This is a reputable source and reputable writers, so they aren't going to just come out with this on a hunch. They also said that this article is a result of a two month Yahoo! investigation. If they didn't have integrity they would have broken this story when they first found out for fear of being scooped, not two months later.

Good point. I just don't see how they will have any solid proof. I'll say it again....I honestly don't think Tressel would do something like this, but anything is possible.

An AP reporter in Columbus just caught up with Gordon Gee and he said that the University reported a possible violation to the NCAA as soon as they found out about it and then waited on word from the NCAA how best to handle it before making it a statement.

This makes it sounds like they will confirm the story tonight.
