What, do you think that schools need to have 1 compliance officer per coach and player and have them babysit each of them?

The most damaging part of what he did will be him not telling the NCAA in December. The only reason he is admitting it now is that they got caught.

Love Tress, but I'm not sure I can ever look at him the same. Seemed like a stand-up guy who did the "right thing"... guess not. Beating Arkansas and winning football games must be more important

Dynasty has apparently never seen how large and ridiculously peculiar the NCAA regs are. Otherwise, he wouldn't be arguing about this.

I'm not sure JT had any say in whether the players played in the Sugar Bowl. That decision appears to have been made by the Big Ten office, and not OSU.

But as for your overall statement: duh!

Of course winning games are very important. Are they "We'll do anything, cheat any way we can and abuse rules and players" important, like in the SEC? No. But you're going to have that mentality in every successful program, or else they aren't going to be successful.

As for JT: a man's lifetime of experience and deeds plays into something like this. Especially something that I considered ridiculously stupid (the original infractions) to begin with. You don't simply discard all those years of helping and molding young men into productive citizens, and adding to the greater good of society when judging the man. He made a stupid, stupid error in judgment, but he's no less an overall good person because of it.

well the amount of regs have nothing to do with the fact he basically lied to the NCAA about when he knew. and he was covering it up. he said he didn't know who to notify? that has nothing to do with the amount nor peculiarity of the regs. and if they have soo many compliance officers he should've started there. he should have just said i made a mistake and admit everything and move on. they are going to keep digging so he might as well just come clean and it would go away a lot faster. ask Jason Giambi or andy pettite. just apologize and be done with it.

I was a college athlete and sat in yearly on meetings with compliance officials. They were very thorough and talked about stuff that is just common sense. At OSU, I would imagine they are 10X more in depth than anything I experienced. So yes, I'm aware. Obviously Tressel is aware. Not sure if you are defending his lying by saying the NCAA rule book is so big that he didn't know if lying was okay or what?

He was made aware that 5 of his players were breaking NCAA rules in April. He allowed them to play the entire upcoming season anyways. Thats not a minor infraction.

I'm talking about December when he met with the NCAA. He once again didn't share that he had prior knowledge of this situation. He was hoping that this would all go away. Surely if he would have told them that he had heard something in December, both he and the players would have been punished. But maybe the NCAA would have taken it easier on us. Now it looks like we are about to get the full attention of the NCAA and more importantly the media.

Ohio State's swiss cheese story that they provided last night raises plenty of questions. This isn't going away

Tressel is the coach and he can decide who plays in the game, so he knew of the violations and still decided to play them only because he is full of shit and was only looking out for himself.

The SEC comment is a joke because OSU is in the same category now.The difference is OSU got away with violations in the past and now the will pay for their crimes, so will other people when this all comes out.

Tressel got caught and he will bring down everyone with him regardless how many other people you try and blame. Some of you people even tried to blame the compliance officer because Tressel would not break the rules so it must have been the little black compliance guy who screwed up.The coach is a joke with his better than thou attitude and his track record with players is not that great if you look deep enough.You have a quarterback that is average at best and thinks he is untouchable because he was a high school star and everyone in Columbus kisses his ass for no reason other than Tressel has protected him every time he screws up.

You're wrong about Hooley. He's the biggest hater of OSU football and JT. He's never liked the football program or JT, and has blasted them quite a bit in his tenure. Now he does love Matta and the basketball program.

Didn't Hooley go to OSU? Obviously he might not be from there originally, but its not like he moved in from Arizona and started talking all things Columbus sports.
