And I find it funny to use the "they were supposed to be good" lines. The ONLY reason this team was picked 6th preseason in the Big East was because of LAVIN.
Such a senior lead team this year, but as juniors they went 17-16 and lost in the 1st round of the NIT. Yeah that team minus Lavs finishes in the bottom half of the Big East.
Exactly. I hate when people use returning players/seniors as an automatic qualifier for a team being better. Returning those players isn't always a good thing, especially if they aren't that good to begin with.
These Sr's don't have "big game" experience or a real sense of being in pressure situations to begin with, this experience is all new for them. Lavin is a very good coach who fell to unrealistic expectations at UCLA.
He bid his time for the right job to open up and he got it. He's a very good basketball mind and has an excellent coaching staff as well. He's also got a lot of charisma and he can recruit with the best of them... As I mentioned before, his recruiting classes are already ridiculous.
If not for Lavin, St. John's is probably fighting to stay above .500 again.
