IMO that will never happen again in college basketball starting 5 true freshman & making to the national championship game.

Not sure I understand all of this disdain for the Fab Five in which some here are reveling. (That could be, however, because Duke went 5-0 against the five freshman from that Michigan class, including a 20-point victory in the '92 national title game.) In fact, I love the bravado and in-your-face, Grandma-ma attitude that Webber, Rose, Howard, King and Jackson brought to the game. I even bought a Fab Five highlight video when I was in Ann Arbor for a Duke game in 2001. The Fab Five most certainly helped change the culture of basketball; Dynasty nailed it. Mitch Albom's remarkable account of these kids in the floppy yellow shorts and black socks, Fab Five: Basketball, Trash Talk and the American Dream, is a real page-turner that would entertain and enlighten any fan of college basketball, no matter allegiance.

But the Fab Five didn't introduce swagger to the college ranks. Not even close. No, that was Grandma-ma himself, Larry Johnson, and the 1990 and 1991 Vegas clubs. Talk about in your face. Those Runnin' Rebel teams weren't egomaniacs, as someone termed them earlier in this thread. They were public enemies. Those teams were so intimidating, nasty and dangerous, it was almost criminal to allow them to take the floor against anybody.

While they were college players, the 'changes' that they brought about can be seen more in the NBA than in college. Due to changes like this, the NBA is mostly unwatchable, IMO.

Nah what made the NBA crappy was the lack of talent and emphasis on "team ball". Too many teams started trying to win with a collection of very good players and the talent in the 90s and early 2000s isn't nearly as good as what we're seeing now. The game is much more like it was in the 80s nowadays and the game is much better

So the NBA is better when it's a bunch of egotistical individuals trying to score and look out for themselves?

Loved Jim Nantz comment yesterday during the OSU/UM game when they brought up the Fab 5 and this show..."they also destroyed the Michigan basketball program and should be remembered for that as well". lol Something many people fail to remember I guess. Not sure there is another sports team ever recognized as much as they are after the HUGE scandal and cheating that went on. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Yeah, long shorts and attitude hardly makes up for the 20 year tailspin and mediocrity ever since.

It's better when you have over a dozen elite players. Not everyone is an Allen Iverson although you're uneducated post tries to say that

Uneducated? Says the guy who says "team ball" and lack of talent made 90s NBA worse than today.

Today's NBA is garbage.

Saw a tweet today about how the Fab 5 is looked upon as one of the all time greats, yet the back to back Florida team is hardly remembered, I thought that was a good point.

Regardless, I've been looking forward to this for a couple weeks now.

You know, that's the strange thing about it. They never won anything, yet all these years later we talk about them changing the game of basketball, etc. Odd, isn't it?

It really is. My fiance can name all 5 but can't name anyone from the back to back Florida championship teams.

They did change college basketball but the biggest thing that people remember them by was their cheating. I would be willing to bet if you randomly asked individuals about the fab5 the first thing they would say is that they got caught excepting money from boosters. Number 2 would probably be Weber's timeout that cost them a technical. Without those 2 things(assuming they don't win a championship) they would be looked at as a very good team but not nearly as remembered.

Probably true. That is what stood the test of time, unfortunately.

Haha noo todays NBA is much like it was in the early 90s and 80s with one or two elite stars carrying the load surrounded by solid role players. The garbage ball you think of is teams like the Spurs who put you to sleep basically
