Couldn't wait any longer to get this started.

The greatest rivalry in college basketball with first place in the ACC Regular Season and the #1 seed in the ACC Tournament on the line. It doesn't get any better than this for fans of the Heels and Blue Devils.

Duke overcame a 14-point halftime deficit in the first meeting to defeat the Tar Heels in Cameron by a score of 79-73. Carolina hasn't lost since, and they'll be looking for revenge.

What does everyone think about this one?

It all depends on which core of role players shows up for Carolina.

Dex, Leslie, Knox, and Watts HAVE to show up and play well. If they do, Carolina wins IMO. If they don't, it will be a tight one.

The only negative about this game, it's on SATURDAY?!?!?! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ABOUT?!?!?!?

This is the second Saturday game I can remember in recent memory in the Duke-Carolina series. ESPN held the J.J. Redick Senior Night nightmare on a Saturday in 2006. I hate it. Like the ACC championship game, Duke-Carolina is a Sunday afternoon in early March. It's a bigger-than-life event and it should not be tampered with.

However, I will make the most of the prime time slot. To my knowledge, this will be the first (non-NCAA Tournament) prime time game ever broadcast on national television. Welcome to the greatest rivalry in college sports. There is nothing like Duke and North Carolina. North Carolina and Duke.

I was thinking the 2005 game (Marvin's put-back) was a day game and the 2006 game in Cameron was the one at night. I could be wrong though.

I definitely like it better on Sunday afternoon, but oh well. Should be a ridiculous atmosphere in Chapel Hill this weekend.

Yeah see my edits, except that I didn't change the 2005 game. I think that was a day game. I think you're right.

Yep. Already posted as you were editing.

Both of those games were obviously spectacular memories for me. I hope that this year's Tar Heels can deliver a performance similar to those on Saturday.

I do agree with wildcats. Carolina's supporting cast will be the deciding factor in this one. Duke always seems to have someone step up to compliment Smith and Singler. Carolina will need a solid collective effort from McDonald, Strickland, Knox, and Watts to get the win. Each of those guys needs to play his respective role to near perfection for the Heels to have a chance, in my opinion.

Also can't forget the other seniors who will likely be starting the game. The walk-ons will need to play their tails off in the opening minutes of the game to make sure that Duke doesn't jump out to a quick lead.

Haha. With the way the Blue Devils looked tonight, you might get just what you wish. Duke played a terrible first 40 minutes against Clemson tonight. There were bright spots -- notably Mason Plumlee's 8 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks and 2 assists against a formidable Tiger front-line, and Seth "Pistol Pete" Curry's 18 points that came at just the right time and in bunches -- but that first half was the most careless I've seen us play since St. John's. By the time Mike Patrick had referred to Clemson head coach Brad Brownell as "Brad Brownie" for the 24th time in the final minute of the game, at which point Patrick lightly chuckled and corrected himself as if it were the first time he had killed the name, I had for a long while been wondering what it would be like to suffocate myself. (Mike, you might as well just have called him "Butch Van Breda Kolff" all night, because that's how dumb you sounded, you asshole. And to think I used to enjoy your voice and little comments.)

Hopefully, for those Devil followers, Duke rebounds from this lamentable effort by storming into the Dean Dome similar to the manner in which Shane Battier, Jason Williams and company did in 2001 after getting blown off the floor in Cameron. (It was only an 11-point loss to Maryland in that '01 Senior Night loss, in a game that was much closer throughout, but an 11-point win by the opponent in Cameron is a blow out.) Duke, of course, dispatched the Heels 95 to 81 in that 2001 Chapel Hill game. This Saturday's contest is the biggest in the Rivalry In Blue since that meeting. This game means everything, and I for one love it.

The game's pretty much always been on a Saturday night when the second game is at Cameron. However I can't remember a time when the second game at Chapel Hill was Saturday night. Might miss some of the beginning but I'll definitely be tuned in.

Not much activity here so I thought I'd jump start things with some numbers detailing the greatest rivalry in college athletics (and, yes, two schools separated by eight miles of pine trees, a couple of shades of blue and holding nine national titles between them compose the greatest rivalry in college athletics). To paraphrase coach Norman Dale, Welcome to North Carolina basketball.

Duke vs. North Carolina: 1991 to 2011::

ACC #1 Seeds (also known as regular-season ACC Cloth Award

Duke 11, North Carolina 7

ACC Championships

Duke 10, North Carolina 6

National Championships

Duke 4, North Carolina 3

Head-to-Head Wins

Duke 27, North Carolina 21

GIANT SMILE FACE.

I am very high-strung and edgy! Absolutely will be shaking the moments leading up to the trip.

This is a little older, but still works.

http://espn.go.com/endofcentury/s/other/bestrivalries.html

And also, I love any rivalry, so I'll probably be tuning in for this one. Always fun games to watch. Didn't realize how good UNC is now so it should be a good one.

What's the word on Kyrie Irving? Has he actually been practicing at all or is he still in the rehab stage of the process?

I don't care about this game. I've never watched one ever, and I never will. Although I do admit it is the best rivalry in college basketball, but I'll take OSU v Michigan for overall college sports any day of the week.

I look for UNC to be on absolute fire and Duke to just not have enough defense to give their offense a chance.

UNC 80
Duke 71
