Im considering it.

Not completely but with Hulu+ and Netflix streaming through my PS3 and Roku the only thing I would be missing is sporting events which I can see at a bar or friends house. Anyone ever use an OTA HDTV antenna? How hard are they to get to work?

My DirecTV contract is up in April and Im seriously considering not renewing.

I use them. They are pretty simple to setup but I don't always get a good signal. You can adjust it to try to get a better signal, but it doesn't always work. Also if someone walks around the room it can cause the signal to go out and that's pretty damn frustrating.

I seriously would like to consider it too.

The reason why I decided to get cable in the first place was because I knew I would spend more money going elsewhere to watch sporting events that spending money on cable was worth it. I needed internet, and cable wasn't much more on top of the internet, so in the long run, it was better to have cable than to not have it.

My wife and I will be doing the same thing when our DirecTV contract is up in September. We did OTA only for a while before getting DirecTV because I wanted Sunday Ticket. We got all of the local channels plus a bunch of other educational-type channels that would have some neat stuff on it every once in a while. With Netflix, Hulu+, and OTA for about $15/month there is absolutely no need for us to have DirecTV at over $100/month. I'll miss out on Reds games on tv but I plan on going to as many home games as possible and will just listen to Marty for the rest of them or go to a bar.

Antenna

All I did was bought the antenna above, mounted it to the outside of the house, and ran the coax from the antenna into the main coax entry in the house so it would go throughout the house.

hardly ever watch tv myself. I would miss sporting events the most. My parents would bump our DISH channel package down to the very minimum during the summer, sometimes turn it off and we would just have locals. They did it to save money, and get me and my siblings to go outside haha.

I couldn't do it because I would need something to watch when the kids and wife get on my nerves.

Plus an extra bonus is my wife got me the mlb package through Directv so that will give me something to do during the summer when the kids are home from school.

My wife and I have only had basic cable since the day we got married and moved out ... $14 a month...This the just the main networks, and a few extra channels, in HD.

We couple this with Netflix, and Playon, and stream w/ the PS3 or Roku. Our internet is a little expensive, so all in all our total bill for internet + cable + netflix = around $70 a month.

Playon is pretty good, but can be buggy at times. I like Hulu+, but they need more channels...If they add CBS, History, HGTV, then I'm in.

I went without cable for two years, wasn't a big deal as I just watched tv on Hulu, Netflix and the Mlb.tv online package. My only problem was with NFL, College Football and College Basketball, could not find a reliable way to watch those games on line. In the end I probably spent more money going to the bar to watch the Bengals and Ohio State games than I saved by not having cable.
I'd cancel cable in a heartbeat if I could find an alternative way to get sports to my TV....

I haven't had cable since the early 1990's and haven't really missed it. We've just pulled TV off the air. Probably missed a few sporting events but I've gotten over it. Last bowl season there were only 2 games on local stations which sucked.

How long have you been paying that price? We pay for my grandpas RR and the price went from 19.99/month to 26 after the first year.
