If you are a parent and your child is on the run for murder, and then calls you and tells you that they are in the area, do you turn them in?

If you aren't a parent insert parent instead of child.

Part 2. what if they call and ask that you put some supplies out for them or somehow get money to them.

This guy who is wanted for murder in Bellefontaine basically got caught because his dad called the police and told him that he was in the area. I don't have any kids, and even if you do, it's tough to even fathom being in this situation but I don't think I would turn a family member in. And I also don't think that I would hesitate to help them out if I could.

I think it depends on what my child did.

Stabbed his/her boyfriend/girlfriend and then likely killed an elderly couple and stole their car? I'd probably turn them in, but I'm also willing to bet this isn't the first time he has done something shady so his parents probably weren't surprised.

I can envision a few scenarios in which I would hide my child from the law. (killed an abusive boyfriend for example)

Depends. If my father or mother deserved it, then yes, as much as my heart sinks just thinking about it.

If my child (or any other family member) was a known murderer I would turn them in.

Also, if a family member was wanted but was only a suspect I probably wouldn't turn them in but I also wouldn't help them (hide them, provide money). Pretty sure that's illegal and I would want no part of it.

I think there are too many scenarios out there to provide a yes or no answer.

Depends on how high the reward is.

But for murder, yes, I would. As was said above, depends on what he/she did.

Assuming I have no reason to doubt that they did commit the murder then yes I'd turn them in.

Until I am put in the position I really cant say. Right now I would think no family of mine would do something like this but if they did I would prolly turn them in. I know I say that now but if it did come down to it I might not. love of a child is a big thing and I really think it depends on how close you are to the child/parent.

i agree. i have no kids so i can't say for sure but i really believe that i wouldn't turn them in. i would want to believe that i could trust my parents to help me but i understand the point of view of those that would turn people in. obviously everyone wants to think that their family member would never kill another person but i would assume that most (not all) families of convicted felons didn't plan on something happening.

A senseless murder (killing to see what it was like, robbery gone wrong, etc.)? Yep
Situational murder (found a 50 yr.old guy in the process of molesting your 6yr. old daughter)? No

Yes, unless it is some totally wierd circumstance. The odds of them out running the law have to be pretty low anyways, so if they contact you there is no need for me to go to jail also.

yes no matter what. if you knew where they are im pretty sure you could get into legal trouble as well. What do they have to run from if they killed an abusive boyfriend so to speak? You will probably get in some trouble, but not life in prison. I dont see a point in running, esp when authorities know who did it. You will get caught

Hope this helps.

It really depends on the circumstances of the crime(s) and my relationship with the person involved

My mom brought up a good point. No matter the circumstances she would get me (or one of my siblings) an attorney so we could surrender to the authorities. I think this is a good idea/solution to a terrible problem. You want to help your kids but you cannot break the law to do so.

Like others said it depends. I'm probbly encouraging them to turn themselves in to try to absolve the situation as quickly as possible

Here is a scenario for you,Wildcats get into a fight because some guy at the bar was insulting you and he just snaps and grabs a 2 liter bottle of wiskey and follows the guy iinto the bathroom and beats the guy to death and you are the only one that knows,What do you do?

I do agree with your post and would do the same thing.

If I were a parent and my son killed a man, I would stab him for totally fucking up my life.

So yes, I would turn him in.

I would provide them one opportunity to turn themselves in similar to fab4's scenario and if they chose not to I would absolutely turn them in myself and assist authorities any way I could.
