Ian Kennedy is very close to those guys. If he can get 3 wins above the rest of them and get to 21 or 22....with his team winning the division.

IMO Kershaw has to pull away from Lee and Halladay more as his team isn't going anywhere.

Right now I'm not sure who I'd vote for.

Unlike MVP I dont look at team success for Cy Young. Hell, its more impressive when you do something with a shitty offense around you.

I think Kershaw leading all the major categories will be enough (Ks, Ws, WHIP, ERA and IP). Right now he leads ERA, Ks, IP and Whip. Kennedy is ahead in Ws. Even leads in BAA. Granted it is very close in all those. But if a guy is leading all those categories at the end of the year....how can you argue he isnt the best pitcher?

My list was also RIGHT NOW. Obviously if anyone overtakes some stuff they have the upper hand. I dont see Kennedy winning it, unless he is at like 21 wins and the rest dont get past the 16/17 they are at. He just doesnt have the other numbers and the wins likely wont be a large enough gap.

Lees biggest advantage is his 6 Shutouts. The CG are even 7,6,5 for Halladay, Lee, Kershaw. But Roy has no SHO, and Kershaw has only 2.

Before I start this....I still have Kershaw above Kennedy....but I also have a day off.

Games as a starting pitcher at a pitcher's park: Kershaw (18), Kennedy (9)....enough to offset the 1/2 run era....I don't know but 9 more starts in a pitcher's park is significant.

Pitcher's park....Kershaw is 10-1 at Dodger Stadium...has 2 wins at SF, 1 at NYM and 1 at SD.....14 of his 17 wins are at pitcher's parks. The only wins Kershaw has at non-pitcher fields is @ St Louis, @ Milwaukee and @ Arizona

Even with the edge of pitching generally at bigger fields or at least pitcher friendly....Kershaw has given up 4+ ER 7 times.....Kennedy has done it only 5 times.

Kennedy is 8-0 against the NL West
Kershaw is 7-3 against the NL West

***I will admit I did not do any research on stats from each park....just what I thought....so if Dodger Stadium is more of a hitter's park statistically than Arizona's.......then all of this is pretty much moot.

Now I have researched....Dodger Stadium is around the 5th most pitcher friendly park......Arizona's is around 25th.....and each site I checked had Busch Stadium as very pitcher friendly....I had it middle of the pack maybe persuaded by St Louis solid pitching? So 15 of 17 wins by Kershaw in pitcher friendly parks.

I really don't know, but I'd guess Kershaw has had some solid to great starts and not gotten a win out of it where as Kennedy hasn't had as many because Arizona can actually score.

Kinda the same argument but Kershaw has likely faced slightly better opposing pitchers.

In the end I bet Kennedy will get hosed by the flashy numbers and finish a distant 4th. Not that that isn't great, or that he even deserves better. But I think the voters will gush over the K numbers and such of the other 3.

ERA and Strikeouts are great......but Nolan Ryan in 1987 didn't get the love. He finished 3 spots behind Rick Sutcliffe and Ryan had an era of a run lower per 9 innings and 100 more strikeouts....but of course I'm leaving out another stat or two......both finished behind Steve Bedrosian who was the Cy winner.

That was then though. Seems voters are more number heavy these days (Felix last year). Im ok with it though, I think it tells a much better story. Felix was the best pitcher last year, and in the past wouldnt have sniffed the CyA
