SI had a pretty good article on him last year talking about how he almost quit baseball and turned it around with his work ethic. As much as I hate him being on the Phillies, I have a lot of respect for him. He does it the right way.

Reds fans will like this.

Wainwright might be done for the year. He might have Tommy John surgery.

Theriot to the rescue. RT @miklasz: Mozeliak on the Bernie radio show: Cardinals will have to win more by "outslugging" opponents.

Perfectly sets the stage for the Pirates to shock the world!

On a site note, SB Nation's Pirates blog brought the lulz today. Article talking about Jeff Karstens and where he'd be more suited to perform.
But durability really isn't the key question here. It doesn't really matter whether he can get through six innings or not. He shouldn't be starting, since there just isn't any upside. Charlie Morton and Brad Lincoln have upside. Even with Scott Olsen, if you're on the right mixture of psychedelic drugs, you can kind of imagine how he might return to his 2006 form. With Karstens, no. Or, to put it another way, I would rather run the risk of Morton completely blowing a game and having Karstens clean it up than to just let Karstens start the game in the first place.

Also, regarding Karstens' ability to pitch 180-200 innings in a season, there's also the fact that there are only about 1,450 innings per year to distribute to a team's pitching staff. Giving Karstens 200 of them would be a little like consuming 2,000 calories a day, 500 of which come from soda. Yes, you'd survive, but you probably wouldn't feel especially good, so if there's any nutritious food around at all, you should probably eat that instead.

Guy who does it for SB Nation, which is linked to Yahoo Sports. Seems to be a collection of random fans, but those who are intelligent, well-read and not of the "WE RULE/SUCK AND ARE THE BEST/WORST" sort of blowhards. That's where I get most of my Pirates news, as they're constantly posting thoughts, transactions, rumors and whatever.

Wainwright going down is huge for the Cards...

I'm going to assume w/ the Pujols negotiations they don't have the wiggle room to try and make deal to fill that void

Bryce Harper to start the season in Class A ball. Anyone see this 18 yr old making the big leagues this year?

Nope, I see him as a mid-summer call up to Sept. call up next year.

Don't think so. Nationals took the cautious approach with Strasburg and I see the same thing going on with Harper. No reason to rush him this year, they aren't ready to compete for a division crown anyway.

Yeah I don't think they bring him up either. If he is ready, then by all means they should bring him up... but they won't. He'll spend at least one year in the minors

There's not really a need to rush him, like others have said. Let him learn all the nuiances playing at the lower level and advance like we all know he will

No chance Harper isn't up with the Nats in September IMO. He's already crushed it with a wooden bat in JUCO and in the fall league. He's an outfielder so it's not like he needs to learn much defensively. He also on the 40man.

Some fine work by the Dayton Daily News.

Hal McCoy, of all people, should know better than to report clubhouse antics and banter. He can backtrack all he wants, but this was McCoy just grasping for headlines. Marty Brenneman was on the local sports radio station yesterday and ripped McCoy for it. He said that McCoy will probably get no interviews or cooperation from the players because of this.

They moved him to OF so he can get to the bigs quicker, and obviously they don't want the best hitting prospect in years wearing out his knees at catcher. Too bad the Indians weren't smart enough to do that with Santana.
