I'm surprised too. Gonna do an about face here and say I would welcome him A.) At the right price and B.) With an improved attitude/effort.

He could definitely be an asset to the team if his head is on straight.

Johnathon Scott and Willie Colon were both signed to two year deals. Shaun Suisham agreed to a new deal as well.

Max Starks and Antwaan Randle El were both released.

LaMarr Woodley will be a Steeler for the foreseeable future. Schefter reporting a 6-year $61.5 million dollar deal.

I think so. His best years are still ahead of him IMO.

Cuts his cap hit in half, by about 5 million.

Is Suisham seriously the best kicker we can get?

Money saved could help go to those whose contracts are up after this year--namely Polamalu, Timmons, and Wallace.

I thought he performed well last year, that not the case?

Given Polamalu's recent injury history, would the Steelers be willing to gamble and give him another big contract?

2007 he only played in 11 games, 5 in 2009, 14 last year. Is there talk in Pittsburgh that injuries are a concern?

Edit: And he's now 30 yrs old.

Polamalu's injuries are a concern, yes, but I don't see any way that they don't keep him a Steeler for life. (Although Franco did end up a Seahawk).

Suisham's history of post-season flops concern me. I'm not 100% convinced there's not an upgrade out there somewhere.

It would have to be at a nice discount from his previous salary. Haven't heard much about it though.

Agree about Suisham. He makes me a little nervous.

Regarding Troy...the injuries are a big concern but he's such a difference maker when he's healthy. I'd take my chances with signing him to a long term deal. Arguably the best defensive player in the league.

I was hoping they would draft Alex Henery or Kai Forbath but they obviously didn't go that route.

I thought I read somewhere that the Steelers thought Starks was at the end of the line--even Arizona, who needs linemen, didn't take him with all the old Steeler coaches there.

One report said that the Steelers were pissed because over the summer at one point he was over 400 pounds and only got down to about 370.

I heard it would be for a lot less money. I've been nervous about Starks' injury since it happened. He also needs to lose 50 lbs. I knew something was wrong when I could never get info since last year. Wish him the best. He is a great guy, talked with him and Shannon Snell many times at UF. Snell's dad Ray played for the Tampa Bucs.

No doubt that all indications are that Starks is a great guy. Ben wore #78 the other day at camp to honor him.

Happy times there! He'll be a defensive cornerstone for some time.

They'll sign Polamalu even if it turns out to be a mistake. They'll take that risk.

You figure how many games has he missed already vs. how many big plays he's made to win games.

Even if they get more of the same over the next 4-5 years they'll take it.

Woodley is the perfect match for the Steelers and their defense.

Why go someplace else? But many guys would because they don't think of it like that.

Nice to see him make a good decision like this.

If he plays another 5 years I'd be impressed. He dishes out a lot of big hits and seems to be catching up to him. If you got 3 more years out of I'd say you're lucky.

True, although the three years might not be consecutively.

For example he could have a good 2011, good 2012, get hurt and miss most of 2013, and then return with a solid 2014. Something like that.

Woodley has 11 career postseason sacks and he's only 26 years old.

The most all-time is 16 by Willie McGinest so he's certainly on track to be one of the best in that category.

It would incredible if at 34 yrs old he could still play to his current level. If he is still playing at 34/35 chances are he'll be a shell of his current self out there. Esp for a player that relies on his athletic abilty like he does.
