I've got a Nook Color, I really like it. It will get better when the Droid marketplace finally is released here in the next couple of weeks.

Had a Nook Color, mine was buggy in its operation and how it would load books from the Nook store. The books would take anywhere from 1-3 minutes to be viewable after download and 40% of the time it would say "Activity Reader error, please try again".

ended up taking it back, got an ipad. Now read my nook books, kindle books, google epub books, and my apple store buys on the device. Very handy, more than an ereader, still figuring out how to use it in my line of work. Enjoy the ipad for what it is though. Size is something I do miss about the Nook it was so handy, the Ipad is a tad bulky. Especially in the case.

However, the Ipad cannot be compared to anything in terms of functionality and its speed. I would bet that anyone who got their hands on one would ultimately want to buy it.

I've owned 5 apple products in my life, and used 2 more for work, and they've all been peices of shit. Would be willing to try the motorola, but will NEVER buy anything apple ever again. If I want an MP3 player that will quit working properly in 2 months, or a phone that's seemingly built out of cardboard, I won't be paying near what apple prices their products at, that's for sure.

I wouldn't say it can't be compared to anything. The Xoom will certainly give the iPad a run for its money if the price is right.

I bought an iPad a couple of weeks ago and love it. Hardly use anything else now. So much more convenient to haul around. The abundance of apps and the stable and fast iOS runs like a dream.

Using it for notes, ebooks, web, email, movies, Netflix, games, etc..

And yes, there are some very good games on the iPad. The new dead space game is VERY good. Now obviously this thing isn't going to replace my PS3, but it's still a worthy game machine.

The type of case you get makes a big difference as well. If you do a lot of typing, the keyboard dock may be a good option as well.

The iWork apps have allowed me to pretty much forget about my laptop.

I like Android, but it's just not up to par with iOS. Also, I'm not a big fan of motorola and I also hate having to get a data plan just to buy the device. The places I use my iPad have wifi, so why should I have to pay an extra fee a month?

Some critics made complaints about the iPads opening price point... The Xoom is even more ridiculous!

There is a reason why the iPad is still in high demand, and when the iPad 2 drops, people will forget about all the other tablets.

I think you're overestimating Apple. They sell a ton of units and have a big draw, but they're not going to make everyone forget about all the other things on the market. Especially with the cool new things coming out (Xoom, Playbook, Cr-48/other similar devices, some of the tablets shown by Microsoft at CES, etc).

Android isn't up to par with iOS, point blank. The main reason is it just hasn't had the time to mature like iOS has.. Honeycomb looks legit though..

As for everybody forgetting about the other devices when the iPad 2 comes out, well, obviously not everybody will.. I was embellishing a bit there... However, I'd put money on it that the iPad destroys those devices in sales.

As for the blackberry playbook, the fact that you need a bb to use it in the first place is a major turnoff.

Also, it's impossible to overestimate Apple given their track record. The devices they make look great and "just work", which is why they're so popular around the globe.

This is very debatable. And if you are correct, then Anroid will blow away iOS when it does mature.

Unfortunately, put an "i" in front of it and many people will buy it no matter how good or bad it is.

1. I completely disagree with Android not being on par with iOS. Within a year, the capabilities of Android phones have caught up (and in most cases) surpassed the capabilities of iOS. I'm sure there are a few things you can do with an iPhone or iPad that you cannot do with an Android device. However, there are also things you can do with an Android device that you can't do on an iOS device (::cough cough:: Adobe Flash ::cough cough::).

2. You don't know what the Xoom price point is yet. You're getting your information from a leaked Best Buy ad online. That does not mean that the price of the device will be that high. Nobody is going to know the actual price of the device until it's formally announced by Motorola/Verizon.

3. Nobody is forgetting about the other tablets when the iPad 2 comes out. Or should I say, nobody is forgetting about the other tablets with the oversized iPhone 4 without phone capabilities comes out.

some more info to compare. Honeycomb is the key here. We will see more and more tablets this year with Honeycomb. I just don't have the personal need for a little difference in portability between these and a nice laptop for the same price. I'll stay with my laptop until the dust settles in the tablet wars.

Sort of. In the teaser video for the Xoom they went through the "History of Tablets" where they showed the good about the tablet followed by the bad about the tablet. When it got to the iPad, the taglines were..."It's a giant iPhone....but...it's a giant iPhone."

I really believe that (just like the iPad being an oversized replica of the iPhone 3gs) the iPad 2 will be an oversized replica of the iPhone 4.

Early Android was certainly not on par with IOS, but since 2.1 or 2.2 it definitely is. Not the case in the tablet space, however, but Honeycomb fixes that.

And the next version of Android, Gingerbread (actually 2.3 and 2.4 is already in the pipe) allows for developers to run native C++ code within Android, which will put gaming on par with IOS. Android 2.4 will have support for the dual cores, and at that point there's really no criticizing either platform other than a preference for the ways each does things a bit differently.

Now the one thing IPhone has going for it is it can be a pain to switch platforms, and with Itunes and the like it can also be an expensive proposition to switch. And the branding/marketing is second to none for all the fanboys who view their phone as a status symbol and fashion statement. Android, on the other hand, has a host and variety of options and you can switch OEM's and brands as easily as you can change underwear. From my perspective, that should make Android the obvious choice for a consumer who wants the flexibility to find just the right fit. And Google is the big front-runner in cloud services, which is another reason to choose Android (but to be fair other platforms don't prevent you from utilizing that).

iOS still has the corner in sheer volume of apps. I think it's currently got a 4:1 ratio to Android in number of apps available from the app store.

This is true. At this point, however, there is not one single need I have that I haven't found an app for to do the task well.

And widgets RULE. Can't imagine having a smartphone without them.
