It's that time again. It's time for the greatest rivalry in all of basketball. It's time for Carolina and dook.

The Heels, after a rough start to the season, have won 13 out of their last 15 games, and are playing their best basketball of the season. Over the last three games, Carolina has hammered NCSU by 20, BC by 32, and FSU by 20. On the other hand, the dookies have rebounded with authority after a surprising loss to St. John's last week by disposing of Maryland and NC State in impressive fashion. Both teams have only one ACC loss, so this game is for sole possession of first place in the battle for the regular season "title", and of course, bragging rights are on the line as usual.

The atmoshere in Durham is sure to be electric, and I'm sure those "clever" Crazies will have some interesting things planned for Barnes, Bullock, and the rest of the Heels.

What does everyone think?

Wherever there is a Tar Heel rampantly spelling "dookies," there must follow a freshly stitched flag spelling N - I - T. I distinctly remember this property of correlation standing true in 2003 (2002, of course, not counting, as the Tar Heel football team lost more games that season than the Hoop Heels won.) Good to know, however, that our friends from Franklin Street are back. Hell is a cold place.

Another installment of the Rivalry In Blue, the most impassioned and unique competition in all of college sport.

UNC is playing very well of late, and the Heels will be amped and ready. Some are even submitting Roy as ACC and national coach of the year. (It only took Roy a whole NIT season plus 18 additional games to right the ship, but hell, I say give him the plaque simply for making Carolina competitive again.)

UNC has nothing to lose and everything to gain, and that always makes for a dangerous opponent. Despite the recent success the team has enjoyed over its five-game winning streak, UNC is being given about as much chance to walk away victorious from Cameron Indoor as Will Graves from a water pipe. This worries me gravely (no pun intended), as it evokes images of Senior Night 2006. On that night, a youthful but emerging Tar Heels club crashed the party of an experienced class of No. 1 ranked Blue Devil seniors and left turning out the lights. I want it made clear that I would rather be with God than lose to UNC on Wednesday. And by with God I mean dead in hell.

Let the friendly affair begin!

LOL. Very entertaining post, rec. Just to set the record straight, the only misspelling I made was in the thread title. ;)

I'm very happy that the Heels are finally starting to play well, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself. I fully expect Singler and Smith to lead their team to a victory over Carolina at home. I would love to see a repeat of 2006, but I'm just not getting my hopes up.

Going into the season, and after the first few games, I was worried that the trip to Cameron would result in another beatdown, similar to the one handed out last season. Now, I think the Heels will be much more competitive. We'll see how much they have truly improved on Wednesday night.

Haha I was happy to see that you could at least gather enough composure for the thread title. How gracious of you:)

I generally would agree with your prediction that Singler and Smith will not allow a loss to UNC inside Cameron, especially with our current 31 home game win streak and the harrowing fact that they've already lost at home to the Heels twice during their careers. But, as the 1995 classic forever embedded into the minds of everyone associated with this game, with this rivalry, you never know. And 2006 is still such a painful and lingering memory. Granted, North Carolina isn't heading to Cameron with a freshman like Hansbrough, who put 27 and 10 on the board on his first trip to Durham. He single-handedly destroyed Duke that night.

The "Black Falcon" aka Harrison Barnes is certainly coming around, though. He dropped back-to-back career highs of 25 and 26 in wins over N.C. State and at Boston College last week, respectively. Chestnut Hill has proven one of the tougher locales to play in the ACC since BC joined the conference in 2005, so Barnes' performance at the Conte Forum makes me believe he is reveling in the thought of his inaugural trip to Indoor. This is the biggest stage he'll play on this year (barring, of course, the NCAA tournament), and a big game would officially expunge all conversation of Barnes not living up to the early hype. Which hopefully doesn't happen, as this has made for an uncannily perfect theme song to Harrison's first couple of semesters in college. :D

Cannot wait!

Students (freshman mostly) have been camped out since december 16th. Just because the tar holes haven't been ranked most of the season doesn't mean the crazies won't be amped for this one. 82-50 still lingers with light blue, but Harrison Henson and zeller could care less about last year. Duke will play a spirited game and i imagine ol Roy will have his boys ready for a track meet. It all comes down to carolina's ability to defend the three point line and match up in transition and duke's ability to limit dribble penetration for easy buckets to Henson and zeller. Got to make barnes hit the jumper from mid range and shoot on the move. If they can do that I think singler smith Seth and mace will be able to defend the home court. 76-68 dark blue.

Go to hell Carolina go to hell.

Shades of this keeps popping into my head, only the remix of Barnes shooting and Singler looking on......against my better judgement I'm calling Heelz 72-68.

I got a moderate laugh out of seeing this on a Duke board. (I'm not going to lie, I didn't even know who the bottom person was until I clicked on it and searched Google. After discovering it was Clay Aiken, the Shakur photo was that much better.

Almost time for tip-off. My hatred for dook is at its peak.

GO HEELS!

And by the way, Karl Hess is doing to GTown-Cuse game. That means he won't be in Cameron ruining the greatest rivalry in basketball. Yes!

UNC looks awesome.
This team is on a tear. The way they have been playing the last few weeks, they could easily go deep into March.

Pretty solid half. Carolina missed some opportunities to really open up a huge lead with some turnovers. You have to figure Duke will actually make some of their 40 3's they attempt in the second half to make it a tight game.

Good to see Zeller healthy finally. Duke has no answer for him.

Late banking hours at CIS tonight.

I don't watch duke play that often so I could be totally wrong... But duke seems a little soft to me.

You are 100% correct. Always have been soft. Its kind of hard to be physical when your offense involves shooting 3s and little else.
