I consider road conditions bad enough to wear my seatbelt if another driver other than myself is on the road at the same time I am. Also I will buckle up if there are ditches and ice on the roads, or if there are ditches and no ice. Also if bikers or pedestrians are out there I'll buckle up. In short, there isn't ever a time I feel safe on the road without fastening that belt. I've never understood why a short drive makes a seatbelt less important. Don't most accidents occur just a mile or two from our homes?

Don't really have a reason, just always have. As for the accidents within a mile of the home, couldn't tell ya, but I know my only wreck was about 130 miles from home. So from expierience, I'll say false. :D

I'm honestly kind of surprised by these responses (Not in a bad way necessarily). I rarely wear mine. I honestly don't know why I don't, I just don't. The only time I do is when I'm driving my wife's car because it dings faster and louder until you do; the car does it too lol. My Grand Prix doesn't ding though, which is surprising because it's a newer model.

99.9% of the time. Sometimes if I'm just moving a car I won't and then it feels really strange.

I dont even start the engine till its fastened. I honestly cant think of a single rational reason not to wear one all the time while driving.

The only time I will ever not wear one is on the way to a bar or something and you have a 3 person backseat cramped with 5 or 6 people.

Always. After wrapping my car around a phone pole in 2007 I'm not taking any chances. Granted, I have always worn my seatbelt so it's not an inconvenience to me.

Always wear mine. One thing I find funny is that the insurance companies did a poll of people in car accidents and found that statistically, you are more likely to be involved in an accident within 10 miles of your home. Kinda makes those quick drives to the store, work and such a little more significant.

Speed limit from my house to work is 35 mph...it's gonna take more than that to throw my big ass out the window. Lol

About the only time I don't is if the trip is amazingly short. Like if I go to Krogers to get gas and then do shopping, I won't wear it from the gas pump to the parking lot. Or if I'm going home and stop at the mailbox, I won't put it back on to go up the driveway.

But any actual trip, I wear it. When I was younger, I rarely did, but then got a car that auto-belted me in. I guess I just got accustomed to wearing one all the time, so when I got my next car, I found myself putting it on.

Almost always.

My company administers several employer health plans in which your health insurance deductible and out-of-pocket limits rise considerably if the plan has to pay for injuries suffered in a MVA in which you were not wearing a seat belt. Typically, it triples - you'd go from a deductible of $1000/OOP $2000 to one of $3000/$6000. The extra amount you have to pay applies only to expenses related to the accident itself and complication resulting thereof.

Judging by the interest shown last year by employers, I would say that this will be more the rule than an exception in five years.

Friend got in an accident in a parking lot going about 10mph. Cracked 3 ribs on the steering wheel cause his seat belt didnt stop him from going forward into it. I had mine on in the passenger seat and had no damage.

There are no rational reasons for not wearing a seatbelt.

And I was in a wreck doing 45 mph, hit a tree, no seatbelt, walked away just fine. There's even times wear seatbelts have actually killed people.

I'm not condoning not wearing one or anything. Just my preference. 85% of the time, I'm wearing one. I wear one when I'm going any place that takes more than a few minutes to get to. For some reason, just never felt the need when I'm just going down the street.

Yes, but the percentage of time that seatbelts harmed the user more than they would have been harmed without one is likely extremely low.

100% of the time.

Ironically, I do not do it for safety. I do it just in case I get pulled over..do not want that extra fine.

I've avoiding voicing the idiocy of that actually being a law until now, but I'll just say that I think it's stupid that there is a law in place for the purpose of protecting me from my own actions.

But the chance is still there, regardless of how low it is.
