This intrigues me, reminds me of when a buddy and I used to mix Bass and Harp together. I remember it being pretty tasty. I hate coffee and stouts taste like coffee to me, therefore my low ranking and his one high. I think the APV was 10% on that one, the guy loved it.

The amazing thing about that beer is no chocolate or coffee was used in making it. Bass and Harps? Really? I had the Pumking the other nite too. The Wife picked up another bottle yesterday. We will probably share that tonight. If I was an Alky, I wouldn't be able to hold on to them for years. The one with the Red top is called Mephistopheles and I've had it since March of 2006. It was bottled in Jan of 2006, Batch #1. LOL. I expect him to drink them that's why I gave them to him. Most have some age on them. The Stone Imperial Stout is from 2007. The Founders is from 2006 or 2007. The Southern Tiers are at least a year old. The rest have 6 months or longer. What beers are good to age? How long do you want to age them? What are you trying to acheive by aging them and how do they change? Am I not supposed to drink some of them right after I buy them?

Flavors can change a lot as you age them. Some beers for the better some get worse.

Some of those beers only come out once a year. Instead of just buying 1 or 2 to drink, I'll buy 2-4 more and put them away. Then repeat next time I go to the store. Almost any high ABV Stout will age, same with Barleywine style. Also higher ABV Belgium Ales. Stouts and Barleywines can have a lot of alcohol flavor when they are bought right off the shelves. While good, it can cover up the flavor of the grains. I've also aged Christmas ales. since 2005. Christmas Ales usually have over the top spices. As these age the spices calm down and the malt characteristic comes through, which was previously hidden by the spices when it was new.
Some are designed to be aged like the Stone Vertical Epic series. They started it in 02-02-02 and will produce it until 12-12-12. Those are also the release dates. The idea is you do a vertical tasting of each year once the 12-12-12 comes out. (but you can drink them whenever)
Like Pants said some don't age well.
Aging IPA doesn't really work, as the high hops flavor is the purpose of it. After a few months the hops start to go away and it loses that hops distinctness.
I've actually heard of one brewer that said aging beer doesn't make them better as they are supposed to taste like they do off the shelves. I and others beg to differ. Maybe if it doesn't make them 'better' it makes them 'different' none the less.
