Looks like all the aid and intervention the United States has been providing for the last half century is really working wonders in the Middle East. Can we just cut all ties finally? Fuck them over there, let them have at it. Are we really that dependant on the oil of the ME anymore?

Precisely. The mere fact that there are people in power who think things like S.773, the Fairness Doctrine, and other such information control tactics are good ideas should frighten the crap out of everyone.O-Trap;657201 wrote:Agreed, but that doesn't mean nobody wants it to.

Thanks, O-Trap. It was in the news and Obama's czars were pushing for it.
september63 - nice avatar. Now.....who's part of the problem by being ignorant?
I know IWP is usually informed...I wonder how he "missed" this one? Or is it selective ignorance since he's all for Net Neutrality????

A bit of a low blow, but I was inspiried by you calling me part of the problem. My apologies.
On another level, the term, "ignorant" means you simply did not know. It does not always have a negative connotation.

Be careful what you wish for in the situation in Egypt. I see a lot of similarities between this and 1979 in Iran. Getting rid of the strongman really improved things there, didn't it?

When the Wealthy suck the life out of a society this is the end result...Poverty breeds chaos, Greed breeds chaos. Unless we as a society learn how to end or deal with poverty this will always be the end result. America's day is coming one day soon. I hope one day somebody realizes that we were not meant to live the way that we do..."Rob,Kill and Desroy" I'm sorry almost 90% of nations are guilty of these three things. We have no purpose on this planet other than a race for wealth, when our cause becomes more than this ,situations like what is happening in Egypt will cease to exist. Just my 2 cents

How about this one?? - http://www.theblaze.com/stories/committee-passes-plan-for-internet-kill-switch-in-egypt-u-s/
It appears to cut across party lines, although Susan Collins is a RINO and Liebermann is a...well....hmmm...ummm....we don't know what Joe is, now do we?
This is an important issue to me because it gives the gubmint the tools to shut down free speech whenever they feel threatened....or a crisis...or some other malevolent "catastrophe" that allows them to shut down people's right to speak freely. I would question the Bill's constitutionality, but then that hasn't stopped Congress and the POTUS in the past.

I see someone has been drinking the class warfare kool aid and went back for thirds.
The problem in Egypt has been a CORRUPT MILITARY REGIME that has been pulling the strings for decades. I'd say chances are very good most of our aid doesn't go for clean water, food or any other such stuff. It probably goes into the pockets of corrupt officials -- as it does in most of these God forsaken places. There's little to no way to prove or account for how it's spent.
Hell even the UN can't do it without corruption (see the oil for food scandal that went all the way to the son of the guy running the place).
I have NO problem with cutting most foreign aid to these places. None whatsoever.

#1 I'm not drinking the class warefare koolaid, the fact is that the World operates on 2 basic principals "Money and Power". Call me whatever you want but we the United States support these "REGIMES" for "OUR" interest, we could give a SH*t about clean water and aid. You really need to see the world for what it is!!! The Military over there is supported by us "OUR" tax dollars. The tear gas, tanks and guns have all been supplied by us. So let me ask you this, Why have we supported this Dictator for the past 30yrs?
Get a clue before you start calling folks Koolaid drinkers......The U.S. does alot of good in the World, but lets not act like we are saints by any figment of the imagination!!!!

What's interesting is that several people receive money from both groups that support and oppose the measure. Which just speaks to how intrenched lobbying is in DC.

Thanks, but I have a clue. Quite a few of them, in fact.
You need to grow up. In the world of diplomacy, you often have to get in bed with folks who you otherwise wouldn't go near. It's how the world works if you want to try and maintain stability and sanity in areas that tend to be neither -- like the Middle East.
