I just chose Matthews because he brings everything that Harrison does to the table...and is younger/more in his prime IMO. Id take either on the Falcons, but out of these two Id just like Matthews a bit more

I don't agree that Mathews brings the same to the table a Harrison. Yes, both are beast and they are 2 of the top 5 defensive players in the NFL.

Mathews had 3 1/2 more sacks...but Harrison had 40 more tackles, 4 more forced fumbles and 1 more fumble recovery.

I believe Harrison has one more edge.......no one has a bigger chip on their shoulder than James Harrison....and he plays with it.

I agree with this to a degree. He doesn't bring everything that Harrison does right now, but he's pretty damn close and he's younger. If I had to take one on my team right now, it's probably Matthews because of his potential.

Didnt realize Matthews had so few tackles honestly, kinda surprised me when i read that. I agree then that Harrison brings a lil more to the table than Matthews.

Idk bout the chip thing though, plenty of people have the same exact chip that Harrison does, if you're refering to the not getting a lot of NFL teams attention, getting cut ect

A lot of people have gotten cut....Harrison has been cut what? 5 times? 3 by the Steelers?

How many of those players are anywhere near the level of Harrison. Harrison has been shunned most of his football life. Where did he play in college Akron? Been cut 5 times? Clay Mathews Dad and uncle played 18+ years EACH in the NFL....stud at USC....it's impressive that he has even surpassed the hype....but Clay had it made as far as getting the many chances to be the stud......Harrison has had to prove WAY more people wrong.

Im not saying compared to Matthews he doesnt have a chip, he def has more of a chip on his shoulder/more to prove between the 2.

You said biggest chip in the league though. Theres MANY people in the league who got cut, overlooked by colleges and have turned out to be studs. Lots of people carry that chip

It can't be measured and I realize that we could both be right or wrong...but IMO he has the biggest chip...or plays with it the most. JMO

Id say its more he has a chip, and has the talent to make you notice it. Some guys probably have as big a chip and play even harder than Harrison, but it goes unnoticed because they arent as talented.

I'm pretty sure Harrison retired, so Matthews wins by default

Chip on shoulder doesn't equate to more talented though.

Here's an argument that I'd like someone to try to refute on why I'd take Matthews over Harrison. Most of us can agree that Matthews brings almost as much to the table as Harrison. Thing for me is, this is Matthews' second year in the league. It took like 6 years before Harrison was playing at the level he is now (not to mention everyone looks a little better in a Dick LeBeau defense, notice how guys like Joey Porter seem to fall off once they go elsewhere). So imagine, if you will, how good Matthews is going to be in a few more years. Along with his NFL pedigree, I'm taking Clay Matthews all day. I can only hope the Browns pick his brother come draft time.

Its not like we are the only ones. In fact YOU are in the minority. Mathews was second in DPOY to Troy, Harrison wasn't...

Its all opinion, and neither is wrong with these two, but it seems like you think we are all crazy.

He didnt take his votes. If someone thought he was the best, they would vote him the best. People think Clay is better by a 2-1 margin, if you expand the poll for the DPOY voting by those media members.

Laley....first off I only think one person on here is crazy....and it's not you or any of the people I am talking to. I don't know what I put to infer that anyone was crazy and the arguements are legit both ways IMO. The stats are about dead even between the two and if anything Harrison's are slightly better. My only problem was that it SEEMS like some of the people who chose Matthews chose him because he is much younger or that he never had any set backs? The fact is they are both unbelievable players and like most of us agree are 2 of the top 3 defensive players in football as per AP vote....and I just thought any arguements for Matthew should be based on the NOW.....and he has plenty of them to warrant choosing.

I agree with that. He, Troy P, and Harrison are the top 3 players on that side of the ball. Id probably through Ed Reed and Patrick Willis in there as well to round out my top 5. But that kind of depends on the position as you could argue Haloti Ngata is up there as well even though he is a DT.
