I think the online streaming is improving and Netflix has signed multiple billion dollar deals and will only get better. I recently downgraded to the streaming only and unless your a movie aholic, you'll be fine... If not, change back!! Won't hurt to try it for a bit!!!!

Netflix supposedly just signed some bigger deals that will allow the instant streaming selection to vastly improve...

However, I agree with those saying it's not all that bad. A ton of tv shows and pretty decent deletion of movies..

BTW, they can and will throttle your DVD usage. If you turn around and return the DVD's the day after you receive them constantly you will start to see your turn around time get longer.

I never had that problem. I used to get 2 at a time, burn them, and send them back the next day.

They most certainly will do it. I think it's like 16 per month for 2 at a time and 8 per month for 1. Something like that. There are threads about it all over the internet if you google it.

Given sufficiently speedy mail delivery times, customers on "Unlimited" plans who turn around their discs quickly enough can receive enough shipments in a month that the company's actual cost of delivery exceeds the subscription fee, making the customers unprofitable. Even below this point, higher volume customers are by definition less profitable than customers who receive fewer discs per month. If these customers become too numerous, there are various measures which the rental company can take. One is the so-called "throttling" approach, which received a fair amount of publicity in regards to Netflix (which refers to the practice as a "fairness algorithm"[3]). In this case, high-volume customers may experience a greater likelihood of (slower) shipments from alternate warehouses, when the nearest shipment centre does not have the requested movie. Also, if there is a high demand for a particular movie, it is more likely that an infrequent renter will get priority over the frequent renters, with the latter receiving a movie further down on their queue.[4] They are also less likely to receive replacement shipments on the same day a disc is received.
...

It's in their TOS

I LOVE the idea of NetFlix, but honestly... how do you people have time for this? If you're not in college or you're not retired, how in the world do you have time to watch enough movies to make NetFlix a valuable option?!

Im not in college, but in my job I dont work until around 4 or 5pm every day. There is NOTHING on TV during the day, so I usually watch a movie per day if I dont have errands to run etc.

I haven't done it in a few years so they must be more strict now. I got way more than 16 a month back then.

They added it to the TOS in 2005

Basically it will start to take you longer and longer to get your new DVDs when you hit the limits

I always did the same thing sloopy. Had 3 out at a time. Burn them, then ship them back next day. Always had 3 more within the next couple of days. Never slowed down for me either.

I have a full time job, active social life, and Netflix is still very worthwhile for me. I pay $10 a month. Last month I watched 5 movies online, 4 episodes of weeds, & 4 DVD movies. Roughly 22 hours of entertainment at $0.45 per hour. I pretty much don't watch any TV other than Ohio State basketball, and will likely cancel cable once basketball season is over.

Easy lil' fella. Nobody said you were making anything up. I just said I didn't have a problem with slow shipments. That doesn't mean somebody else didn't.

It is true that they "throttle" but I don't think they do it for 100% of the people that are meeting the requirements.

Same here, I don't watch current television aside from sports except for The Office and if I remember it is on Top Chef. I've never seen an episode of Lost, 24, Heroes, West Wing, ER, House, etc. If I ever want to watch these shows I can stream from Netflix - and they have a very good independent film selection available for streaming. I probably watch 4-5 independent films per month, the occasional first-run film (which selection isn't that great - yet) and will catch up on older movies/tv shows. For streaming only it is a very good deal.
