IMO the guy is a quarterback and thats his job, If I was him I would be focused on what I had to do that Sunday, not what the fuck Dick Enberg had to say. Personally, I think the media would be very distracting and should only be something that you agree to do and not required. If I feel like giving an interview or press conference then good, but don't label me an "asshole" if I choose not to. Again thats just IMO and I know I will probably be in the minority about it. I feel that doing all sorts of media things would be something that I wouldn't enjoy.
Couple things:
1. Thats fine, but if you are required, as QBs are...wouldnt you just suck it up and not be a dick. I mean, when you go places, no matter how much you dont want to be there, do you ignore someones handshake?
2. The media is what makes these guys. Would the sport "survive" without TV/Media...sure. But they wouldnt be making the money they are. The media, for all its blamed for, MAKES these stars famous.
3. He is an ass-hole in general, so how he talks to the media is a reflection of that not a reflection of him not liking the media (if that made sense).
4. As someone in the media, it is frustrating when people dont give interviews or something to talk about during the broadcast, but its respected when you politely decline. Ive only run across a few athletes/coaches/ADs/whatever who have declined, but they do so politely and it isnt an issue. Now, if someone was to say "fuck off" (not verbatim, but in body language, tone, etc). Id be angry. Im just trying to do my job, and whether that person likes it or not, the public (who's attention he loves) gets the information from me. Im not an asshole, I didnt come to your home in your free time asking for an interview. I simply came to you, so I can better your own image during a broadcast while you are drinking water etc.
