If a parent relies on a school system entirely they are going to be very disappointed. The school should augment the parents educational efforts, not replace it.

Not graduating HS.
Having a child before the age of 22
Having a child out of wedlock

Agreed. Although I would augment by saying that best of wishes to the whole community/state, because they are the ones who will probably spend alot of money raising a good portion of those kids - WIC, state provided insurance, daycare, etc.

I really think that teen parenthood should not be funded by welfare. Welfare is all good if a person falls on hard times not creates hard times. The parents or parent of a teen who is pregnant should be responsible for the teen and the baby. As long as teens have a free government check for babies then the teen pregnancy rate will continue to be high.

I don't think there were 90 sexually active teens in my high school. I knew of 7 or 8 girls who were ( I am sure there were more) and about 30 guys who said they were ( I am sure it was less). I can recall 2 pregnant girls in my 4 years of years of high school and about 4 more who were pregnant about 19 years old. My school had about 900 students in it.

So I was just at Rite Aid and, one of the magazines had Amber Portwood on the cover holding her daugher (one of the original "Teen Moms". Amber is the one that is in legal trouble for continually hitting her boyfriend. Anyway, I'm reading the article and it says that she makes $280,000.00 from this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Further, due to her notariety she has been over a half million dollars to pose in Playboy.

Now.........you tell me, these types of shows are not encouraging other girls to one to be on it or, at the very least, putting thoughts in their heads.

This is actually a horrible idea. If the students are not already smart enough to realize that you are just feeding them a load of crap, they will realize it sooner and later. Then how are they supposed to believe anything that was taught to them after they realize they were not being told the full truth in the first place.

Personally, I think the best bet is to stress that abstinence is the only 100% safe method, but explain, in detail, the other methods of contraceptions and their effectiveness. At the same time, have an extremely open dialogue about the negative effects(emotional, physical, interpersonal relationships) that can occur when a teenager has sex before they are mature enough or, worse yet, does not practice safe sex and has a pregnancy or std. In a subject like this, communication is key.
